“Inexpensive but not clean”
Reviewed 19 May 2012

Stayed a night in a two bed unit. Chewing gum stuck on the kitchen floor and The ceilings and window frames needed a thorough clean as there were lots of spiders and webs sharing our unit.
We needed to get spray for the many little flies.
Sorry but won't be back to this motel

These comments may not be indicative of the whole. The photo of the motel is their new units at the rear of the complex. The remainder are older and dated. We booked the two bedroom unit and I, like others may have thought by the promo picture, thought I was booking into a modern motel unit. My wife was not overly impressed but we soldiered on. She then had to clean breakfast cereal from the bowls before we could use them and to her horror had to then clean off crumbs left on the microwave plate in the microwave. The water pressure was low in the shower and the shower head height was just right for my wife who is only 150cm tall. There are minimal power points and so power boards abound and just sitting loose on the floor or hanger down the wall. The mattress on the queen bed is spongy and lounge chair needs to be either re seated or replaced. I did not complain as it would have been pointless as we only had a short stay. The receptionist was about the only good thing I can say about the place. There are a lot nicer propoerties close by for around the same price.

We recently spent two nights here and after booking at last minute weren't expecting the most flash of motels given the reasonable price (compared to what else was available at 2 days notice). However, we were nicely surprised. The super-king unit was clean, spacious, and had everything we needed. It was set back off the road, with ample parking, but with the smell of sea air and being able to hear the waves on the shore. It was lovely and central with the shops and pier within minutes drive, and only a 15 minute walk into the shops. The beach was right across the road too.

The location in Kaikoura was perfect - away from the busier town area, just a few blocks down the beach, and the motel is just across the quiet part of the Esplanade from the ocean. The room itself (we had a studio unit along the 7-14 set) was nicely sized with a table/chairs, couch, sink & fridge in addition to the king sized bed and bathroom. The bathroom did smell a bit wet, as if it does not dry out, and the walls are not so thick between the rooms. But the entire front wall is window and with the room-darkening drapes pulled back it is quite nice and airy. There is not a view of the ocean, as a high fence and a house is between the unit and the ocean.

Travelled to Kaikoura for a Marching Competition, our whole team stayed at the Sierra. Our room serviced five girls, with one bed in the lounge area, a Queen in the first bedroom and two singles in the other bedroom. Room was spacious and couch/bed settee was comfortable to sit on. Kitchen was basic and bathroom adequate. Value for money at $35 per person. Didnt have time to wander around the area much but there was food outlets and Hotels within walking distance and just across the road from the sea.

Getting off the Bus in the main street of this town face the sea turn right and start walking.
I would guess it is about 1km away from the Bus drop off point.

Had to take that cold and wet walk to find this place. Rooms were clean with plenty of space.
Laundry facility is available.

Nice and friendly people running this place.
