Margaret and her daughter Nicky were great hosts. I originally planned to stay two nights, but after just the first one I booked two extra, making it four in total. For a walker like me, the location was great - about 25 minutes down into town and on the doorstep of the peninsula walk. Lovely accommodation - vintage, clean and comfortable; good shower pressure in the bathroom, absolutely wonderful breakfasts and home baking every day. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough. Thank you Margaret and Nicky! From Naomi (and Alanna) x

Up on the hill overlooking Kaikoura, this is a great wee home stay / B&B. Friendly and warm hosts, and homegrown fruit with breakfast to boot! Cheers - definitely reccomended, and at only $75 a night if you're travelling solo, it's a great deal...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Margaret and her daughter Nikky. They were very warm and friendly and made us feel welcome. Guests had their own shared lounge, kitchen and bathroom. The beds were comfortable and the home very clean. We did have mosquitoes and moths in the bathroom - the only reason we could not rate Bay-view as excellent. Margaret prepared a hearty breakfast which included some home made goodies and was happy to offer breakfasts at anytime from 6.30am. If you are feeling a little homesick this is the place to stay. We stayed with Margaret and her daughter on our recent trip to New Zealand and could not have found more welcome hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and both accommodation and breakfasts were excellent. We loved talking to Margaret over breakfast and listening to her b & b tales over the years. She is a truly lovely lady and fantastic for her age.

Selected this location on a whim for a one night stay in Kaikoura (a wonderful destination for nature watching).

Nicki and her mom "granma" Margaret are absolutely delightful as is the charming home they maintain.

- breakfast is comprehensive and prepared right in front of us

- the garden is just beautiful

- our room was basic, clean, warm and well furnished. The bed was extremely comfortable and we slept very soundly.

- the bathroom is very basic but immaculate and very functional

- the house is decorated in a very cozy and lovely manner, and we just felt like it was a visit to family

We had a wonderful stay with Margaret and Nicky, it was like being with my own Grandmother. We felt very much at home and our room was very cosy. Breakfast was lovely, we won't forget those homegrown tomatoes -delicious! It was such a nice stay, we were sad to go!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Margaret Woodill is the classic Kiwi grandmother and thinks nothing of getting up at 5.30 am to cook a full breakfast including homemade bread before your whale watching or dolphin swimming trip in Kaikoura, New Zealand. She’s lived in her Kaikoura peninsula home with its sweeping views of sea and mountains since 1934. She began taking in passing travellers over 20 years ago, just before the whales and dolphins turned the township into a tourist Mecca. When her four children left home, opening a bed and breakfast seemed a logical use for spare bedrooms and bathrooms. Since husband Bob’s death in 1999, Margaret says guests are her family and that’s why she calls it a HOMESTAY rather than a B&B. ... more   less
