As part of a 2-month trip around New Zealand, I wanted to visit the Kaikoura peninsula for the local whales and dolphins. Nikau Lodge looked pleasant, boasted mountain views and was within easy walking distance from town, so I booked 3 nights in the Seal Suite.
Quentin and Jane made my stay very enjoyable: they picked me up from the bus stop, drove me to the beginning of the Kaikoura Coastal Track and suggested sightseeing options. I plumped for a terrific 'Wings over Whales' tour during which our pilot showed us two large sperm whales. The Coastal Walk is well worth doing on a sunny day, taking you through stunning scenery. It also takes you past 'The Green Dolphin' restaurant which serves up freshly caught crayfish (you can see the pots from the coast).
The home cooked and continental breakfast options were really good and I took delight in sampling a couple of Quentin's movies as well as a few complimentary glasses of wine taken from bottles in the fridge outside the rooms.
Overall, I am very pleased that I decided to stay there and would definitely recommend the Bed and Breakfast.
