This hostel was really nice for what it was, good sized rooms with it's own toilet room and shower room; lots of floor space but only 1 double plug point for 8 beds! Has a cabin feel to it, and there's a great view of the southern alps on a clear morning.
The kitchen was the highlight of this accommodation, a rustic style and very spacey area with adjoining living area. Very clean!!!
Only downsides are that the locks on the sliding doors into the rooms are a bit tricky to unlock and lock so we had to get some help from reception a couple of times. Also at night there is hardly any lighting at all leading to the back where the rooms are, apart from cats eyes on the floor (which don't really make any difference).

Did a 1 night stopover here while travelling on the Stray Bus. Was a very nice little place with a very homely feel to it. the rooms were neat and tidy, though the toilet and shower room were every small and there was nowhere to dry your hands by the sink. The Kitchen was well equipped, thought the microwave was broken. Overall, ideal if you are stopping by Kaikoura.

Great location and great rooms. You could almost park your car in front of the room! (Parking is kinda limited though but you can park on the streets.) The staff is extremely friendly and there is a TV room(cool basement) where you can watch movies. Only downside is most of the kitchen don't work. only 1 / 3 stove worked during our stay which make cooking crazy considering the number of people waiting. so you see a lot of people prepping their stuff and now waiting for heat. But I like the atmosphere so I would probably be returning soon.

Just an overnight stay. Mad but likeable hostess. Normal issues with ignorant kids being loud and inconsiderate. Lots of things in the kitchen did not work and the layout is poor. Needs simple things like more cutlery. Heating and hot water issues, but an OK place.

Stayed here for 3 nights and had the best sleep I've had since I started backpacking. Nice sized kitchen, good sized bedrooms with en suite, really friendly owners who took the time to learn your name and refer to you by name frequently which made you feel more at home. Good location with some beautiful scenery and walks in every direction including the local town/shops and seal colony just a short beach side walk away.
The staff were really happy to help in anyway they could, the bed was really comfy, there was a great selection of movies if you got stuck with a bad weather day and it was a very reasonable price. Would love to stay again if I ever re-visit Kaikoura.

We were driving through Kaikoura and found this cool little (actually big!) place. Our double room had it's own bathroom! The kitchen facilities were good and there was plenty of room and stove space for everyone in the kitchen to cook at the same time. The staff on duty were friendly and overall it was an enjoyable stay.

I stayed here for 1 night the hostel was nice and the staff were nice! The rooms were huge and had their own bathrooms which was nice to have your own privacy, however like most hostels could of done with more power sources. The kitchen was also very spacious and nice with a small lounge room next door kept warm by a fire which was lovely. The hostel was quite centrally located and I would definitely stay here again!
