Lazy Shag

We've stayed at lazy shag over the weekend and had we not had our bus ticket back we definitely would have stayed longer! We got a great deal for a four bed dorm ensuite, $24 per night. The owner, Ayumi, was extremely friendly and lovely and made our stay a lot of fun! It is a clean hostel with a big kitchen and a cozy fire place. There's a separate TV room with loads of movies. Location is great, 5 min to the city! We will definitely go back at some stage!

Travelling I tried to avoid backpackers after an horrible experience in Melbourne in 2012, but I came in Kaikura in late afternoon, with no reservation and in need of a room.

Lazy Shag made me change my mind on backpackers: it's truly nice, clean, reasonably quiet with a very spacious kitchen and beautiful view on the NZ Alps. Nice deck to rest in the evening or to eat "al fresco". Also the staff is kind and friendly.

I decided to stop for a second day and enjoyed my time in Kaikura.

We really enjoyed our stay at the lazy shag.. We chose a double en suite room, which was small but warm and the bed was very comfy. The staff is friendly and the view from our window was amazing. There's also a good atmosphere overall, we would definitely stay there again!

Stayed here for one night with the Stray bus. A really friendly and helpful owner checked us in, the rooms were spacious and absolutely spotless. A nice kitchen area, with a few chill out zones for all the travellers. Really good value for money, would absolutely stay here again.

Stayed here for one night with the Stray bus, really good value budget accomodation.everything you need is too hand,on a personal note the hostess (yumi- sorry think I've def spelt her name wrong) was brilliant.I had an accident in kaikoura and she was so accommodating and kind to me,have to say that's a personal touch you don't get in a much larger hostel!!!! :-)

Best hostel we stayed at in New Zealand. It is a two minute walk from the main street so an amazing location. The owners are so friendly and will do anything to help you have a great trip! And the best thing of all is the rooms are super clean and have great private bathrooms. Thanks for a great stay!
