What can I say but 5 star all the way!. Spacious, Modern, Clean, excellent Kitchen with ample storage! Separate laundry, large bathrooms, large living areas, large bedrooms, large balcony with large stacker doors. Pool was great, kids loved it. BBQ facilities clean. Our hosts Chris and Regina were very friendly and always ready to help with anything we needed. Excellent location and within easy walking distance to Boat Club, Shops and Restaurants. What more can I say but very happy with our stay!!

Hi Mojopojo
Wow….thanks for the excellent review. You were such a lovely family and it was a pleasure to see you all enjoying yourselves. We always feel rewarded when we see the families down at the pool cooking dinner, swimming and having a great holiday. We really hope you have the chance to visit us again.
Thank you again.

After some initial reservations about Akama, mostly related to the emails back and forth with the management, our overall experience was very positive. It may be something to do with the email manner, but I initially got the impression that our enquiries were a bother.

After spending some time at Akama, I have realised that this was probably just a misunderstanding, because all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The apartment was also very beautiful, and although there was some noise from the road, it was very comfortable. We arrived on a Friday night, and the road was pretty busy during the weekend, but we felt like we were in paradise once the weekend traffic had died down.

The staff were helpful in booking trips and making sure everything ran efficiently. They were also helpful in offering advice, and made restaurant reservations when we requested.

All together a very positive experience. We enjoyed our stay at Akama, and if we were back in Hervey Bay, we would very likely stay there again.

PS. Hervey Bay is a bit of a sleep hollow. I think the best way to think about it is that you go there for the whales, for Fraser and Lady Elliot Island, and to just chill out. It had a bit of a Porpoise Spit (see Muriel's wedding) feel about it, but that is what made it some endearing and relaxing.

Hello tribalinsight

Thank you for the excellent review. We appreciate reviews from such experienced travelers.
So nice to read that your stay with us lead to you experiencing so many tour and dining options. We are the gateway to Fraser and Lady Elliot Island and it was our pleasure to organize these tours on your behalf.
We hope you have the opportunity to visit us again – Whale Watching takes place between late July and early November.
Kind regards,

Very modern, spacious and clean apartments with a big balcony. It has a big modern kitchen with everything we needed. The dishwasher might be a bit small for larger families - there were only 2 of us.
There is a very nice pool area with adjoining barbeque which comes with everything you need e.g. Salt, pepper, oil, etc.
There was a TV in both the lounge and main bedroom which we enjoyed.
Secure undercover parking is provided at no additional cost and easy to access.

There are cool drinks in the fridge which you can buy which is convenient when you arrive.
Everyone we dealt with was very friendly and helpful.

Areas where I think it could improve are:
It would have been nice if a basic room service was available as an option.

Reception hours are from around 8h30 to 17h00 which seems a bit bizarre for the accommodation business and inconvenient when you are on day tours.
Wi-fi is very expensive at about $16 per day.
We were not given swimming towels on arrival and reception opening hours made it impossible for us to get later.

In summary, despite the few points above, we were very happy with the accommodation and would stay again if in the area.

Hello LizaVW
Thank you for taking the time to post a review.
So nice to read that you enjoyed the facilities and the standard of your accommodation at Akama.
Just to clarify – the office hours are very flexible and are listed as 8.30am to 6.00pm however, we are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and can be contacted on the external phone outside reception.
We are a ‘self catering’ property however for future reference, we do offer servicing of the apartments on request.
We look forward to welcoming you back to Akama in the future.
Kind regards
Chris, Henriette and Regina

We stayed here for 2 nights while visiting Fraser Island. There were 4 of us in a 2 br apartment. We were pleasantly surprised when we walked in and found that there was a lot of room and it was very clean. The Nespresso machine was a hit and the staff were very friendly. Was great value and we would stay here again.

A colleague and I stayed here for five nights while on business in Hervey Bay. This is a truly beautiful facility. Upon check in we were greeted by Regina who was very welcoming and happily answered all the questions we had about Hervey Bay. Our two bedroom apartment was excellent. One room had a king size bed and the other two single beds. Each had its own bathroom/shower. The living area was spacious, clean, and modern. The kitchen was equipped with all the standard amenities such as dishwasher, microwave etc. We had a very spacious balcony. The apartment also had a washer and dryer. On the downside there was a charge for wifi. There was also a charge if you wanted your room made-up each day - not what I am used to but I had no problem with it. The complex is located about a five minute walk from the marina that has a number of dining and drinking options. Hervey Bay is an elongated community that stretches along the coast. As such there is no real town center (at least as far as I could make out). If I were to return to the area I would definitely consider renting a car.

Hi GeogProfOH
Thank you so much for the great review. It was a pleasure to welcome you both to Akama for your recent business trip to Hervey Bay.
As you have mentioned, ‘self catering’ properties in this region do not offer daily servicing however, we do offer complimentary servicing for longer stays.
You are correct, Hervey Bay is a larger area than most visitors expect however, we are situated only a few minutes from dining, shopping and clubs and it was a pleasure to refer you to the many options that are all within easy walking distance.
Not sure if you will have the chance to visit this part of the world again but if you do, we would love to welcome you back to Akama.
Kind regards,

We stayed in 2 bedroom apartment at Akama for a week in early December. The service received from the moment of check-in was impeciable! Lovely pool and BBQ facilities (they supply oil, foil, condiments etc.). The car parking at Akama is easy and secure, an absolute breeze.

The full kitchen in the apartment is packed with modern appliances and although other reviews mention having to pay for extra dishwashing powder, it's only $1 for 2 washes and we only bought one extra satchel for a week stay. If you ask me... its very resonable and I love letting the machine do all the work! The ducted A/C worked very well in the apartment, the full laundry was great! The room was overall very clean, modern and spacious.

The friendly hosts at Akarma are very happy to help you find your way around Hervey Bay and have great area knowledge.

Just a quick tip..I would recommend hiring a car while in Hervey Bay as the majority of the beaches and restaurants are not really in walking distance... (but if you are really keen it could be achieved). The drive from Akama to plenty of amazing restaurants and shops, is incredidably easy and only 5-10 minutes at most.

In a nutshell, the incrediable apartment compounded with the friendly hosts and the relaxing Hervey Bay location, make a stay at the Amazing Akama a must.

Thank you for the excellent review.
You were obviously enjoying your time with us and it was great to see you out and about exploring the Fraser Coast. Very pleased to read that you appreciated the little extras we provide at the ‘barbie’ and the pool is always a popular spot with our guests.
Thank you also, for the sentiments you both expressed when you were departing – please come back and visit us again!

Stayed here for 2 nights mid-November and loved it. Good as new, ultra clean and staff super helpful. I highly recommend Akama as it was our favourite place during our Australian stay! Excellent fish market nearby. We do recommend renting a car in Hervey Bay as it is too far to walk anywhere.
