“Best stay in Australia”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2014

This is definitely the best stay we've had in Queensland. Chris and Henrietta does an amazing job and are great hosts. Special thanks to Regina who organised everything for us including the tour to Fraser Island and our trip to Lady Elliot. It was a very nice touch to not only upgrade us to a top floor apartment, but to keep the same apartment for us whilst we visited Lady Elliot Island so that we can have a seamless transition back was hospitality at its best. If you stay in the Hervey Bay Area, then Akama must be your first choice! The marina nearby has a good selection of restaurants, we ate at Cafe Balaena and it was top notch. Definitely try the local scallops. The fish and chips take away is also very good if you fancy a lazy night in. Garlic prawns are yum!

Hello Twhchung
Thank you for taking the time to post such a very kind review.
We were so pleased that you enjoyed your visit and the activities we organized for you. Such a contrast between the two island tours – from seeing the wonders of one of the most beautiful islands on the Great Barrier Reef to an adventure trek on the largest sand island in the world – you really made the best of your time on the Fraser Coast.
We hope you both had an enjoyable trip home and if you ever have the opportunity to visit Australia again we would love to welcome you back to Akama Resort.
Kind regards,
Chris, Henriette and Regina

My senior colleague and I stayed there for the 2013 Jamboree, with no prior idea about where to stay at Hervey Bay... but boy! did we choose well. The rooms and apartment itself reminded me of an upscale unit overlooking Sydney's best locations, and I literally commented that if I wanted to make a dream apartment it would be just like this! Such is the level of design and convenience/amenities that the Akama provides.

We got the ground floor unit with 2 bedrooms, a large kitchen and a giant living area. I didn't realize it at first (coz we arrived late afternoon) but our balcony headed straight to the pool; surrounded as it was by the right amount of trees to keep the swimming guests' privacy. The bathrooms were surprisingly modern, keeping with the apartment's overall theme. Breakfast was a short 1-block walk to the seaside eateries, with $8 breakfast packages good enough to start our day.

The managers/owners were very friendly, giving good advice about the many dining choices along the Esplanade. Their suggested ride for the trip back to the airport turned out to be a stretched 90s Cadillac, which just added to the smiles we collected on those 3 days we were there. Overall, a highly recommended place to stay!

Hi Mr Penyiar
So nice to hear from you after all this time. Thank you for the excellent review.
The Scout Jamboree was a great success for the region and lots of parents stayed with us while their children were participating in the event. The poolside apartment that you enjoyed so much has always been popular, especially for families with the private courtyard and access to the pool.
If you ever head this way again, we would love the opportunity to welcome you back to Akama – 103 will be ready for you.
Thank you again for the review.
Kind regards,
Chris, Henriette and Regina

Our Veteran ladies hockey team have just stayed a couple of nights as we played in a Queensland hockey tournament in Maryborough. We booked a 2 bedroom apartment and two 3 bedroom apartments. Booking was easy and efficient, pricing reasonable and the staff great. The apartments were clean & modern, spacious & comfortable with everything you require for self catering. A great pool and spa soothed our tired muscles. The Boat Club is 3 minutes walk away, and if you are in high heels as we were on a glamorous night out, the Boat Club Courtesy bus will take you home! There is also a restaurant at the apartments next door where you can dine. One of our hire vans was above the maximum height for the underground parking, but we parked the vehicles quite safely in the visitor parking. A great location. Highly recommended!

Thanks for the great review.
You were such a fun group. It was a pleasure to have you all staying with us and to share in your celebrations after your very good results from the hockey tournament.
We look forward to hopefully, welcoming you all back again next year. Good luck with your upcoming games.

Spotlessly clean, every amenity you could ask for and a friendly helpful staff. This was our first visit to Australia and the only self catering accommodation we chose to stay in. We were not disappointed. We would recommend these apartments to anyone staying in this area. We found Hervey Bay to be quiet and very relaxing which suited us well as we had travelled extensively in Australia for almost a month. The added bonus was having a washing machine and tumble dryer in the apartment which allowed us to do most of our washing before we began our journey home to Northern Ireland.

Hi Ann D
Thank you so much for the very kind review.
It was a pleasure to welcome you to Akama and so nice to read that the facilities met your expectations. Self catering can be a very good option when you have travelled extensively and just need a ‘home away from home’ for a few days.
We would love to think that you may head ‘downunder’ one day and if so, please come back and visit us again.
Best wishes and kind regards,
Chris, Henriette and Regina

Thank you so much for the hospitality and looking after us when we checked in.

A lovely place – impeccably clean, well maintained, modern and very comfortable. The heated pool was a massive hit with the kids and we appreciated access to a full bbq.

Hervey Bay is a place stacked with surprises and things to do. Our kids had a great time and tears were shed last night because they missed Akama so much.

We would visit HB again just to stay with you and we look forward to doing that again soon.

Hi Leesa C
Thank you for the great review.
You were a great family and you were all so keen to see what our beautiful region had to offer. Please tell the kids we will have apartment 102 waiting for you when you return.
So nice to hear the kids enjoyed the pool – really popular through the winter months too, so keep that in mind if you come back for Whale Watching season.
Thanks again.
