Owner description: Freedom III is a comfortable 58ft power catamaran which operates ¾ day whale watch cruises from the Great Sandy Straits Marina in Urangan Harbour. Departing at 9:30 and returning after 4:00pm allows you plenty of time with the awe-inspiring humpback whales in Platypus Bay. The cruise along pristine Fraser Island’s western beaches can offer sightings of dingoes, schooling fish and numerous sea birds. Expert commentary by our knowledgeable skipper will keep you entertained as well as DVD’s on the plasma TV. Colouring activities and soft toys will keep the children amused and if they are tired we have 3 double beds. Home-baked morning tea, tropical buffet lunch as well as fruit and cheese platters for the return trip are all included as well as tea, coffee, water and soft drinks all day. With maximum passenger numbers of 45 and three levels of viewing your whale watch experience will be memorable, informative and uncrowded. Outside of whale season Freedom III is available for Mother shipping charters. These trips are usually for 3 days and 2 nights and fish the abundant waters of Fraser Island. Get a group together for some great fishing action with experienced guides in smaller boats. The month of November is great for sportsfishing in Hervey Bay with the migrating juvenile black marlin visiting these waters. We work in Conjunction with Hervey Bay Fly and Sportfishing to provide Mothershipping for his groups of guests. Freedom III can also be hired for private day charters or overnight trips on the Great Sandy Strait. Your choice of activities: crabbing, boom-netting, swimming, sight-seeing and cruising the sheltered waterways between Fraser Island and the Mainland.
Useful Information: Activities for young children, Bathroom facilities

I have been on 6 whale watching trips over a number of years and this was by far the best. Lost count of how many whales we saw! The staff are fantastic, the food was good and heaps of it. They are in no rush and are very keen to make your whale watching experience the best it can be.
Give the a go...you will not be disappointed.

This tour was scheduled to run from 9.30 am until 2.30 pm but the wind got up while we were out in the bay, It seems that the whales love rougher water and really came out to play so the skipper ran us into calmer water in the shelter of Fraser Island and all the way we were surrounded by breaching whales! So much fun was being had that we stayed out for more than two hours longer than scheduled.

This tour may be slightly dearer than some of the others but the value and attention given is beyond price! The food was great too - especially the profiteroles for morning tea;) and all inclusive.

Seriously though; the service, friendliness and flexibility of this tour is personal (and has personalities) beyond excellence and we would recommend it to anyone.

As an aside; we suggest that you book directly with the tour operator - not with any agency. We tried to book through an agent, were told that it was full and steered towards another, larger operator. When we called the Freedom III directly we had no problem and in fact there were only 30 or so passengers that day from a max of about 45. It seems that some of the agencies push people towards operators that pay higher commissions.

All in all a wonderful day out and the highlight of our stay in Hervey Bay

If you ever get the chance, do NOT miss this experience. The crew of this wonderful boat were faultless - purely dedicated to giving YOU the best experience ever. I cannot speak highly enough of them, from the booking procedure all the way through. Apart from that, the trip itself is mind boggling. Being up close (and I do mean CLOSE) to these amazing animals is something that will stay with me forever. They are absolutely awe inspiring, both in their size and their demeanour. We drove up from Noosa to do this trip on a friend's recommendation - totally and absolutely worth the 6 hours of driving to experience this. Do not miss out - This is the best nature experience I have ever had and would be back on board tomorrow, if only it were possible.

We had an wonderful day out on the water, lucky enough to see lots of whales, some breaching and a chase pod. The sea got a bit rough half way through the day and made some people ill but the crew were excellent dealing with it. Very calm & professional. Lots of information from the skipper Keith and food was plentiful and tasty. Thanks guys for a great day.
