Stayed here for one night whilst on a stopover in Hervey Bay. Was in a shared dorm of 8, found blood on my pillow. Rooms were very dark and noisy. Shared area were reasonable. Staff in reception friendly. Shower areas were grotty and damp. Location a long walk from centre of Hervey Bay/rest of the town. On our last day we had to pay to keep our luggage there as our bus wasn't until the evening, even though the hostel wasn't in peak season and was fairly quiet. Not brilliant.

I stayed in this yha during 2 nights before and after Fraser island. It's a very good yha, very clean, and with a lot of space. Friendly team !!
The restaurant was very good with a lot of different choices !

Room Tip: I have chosen a 4 share room. It was every clean, I recommend it !!

After a great visit to Fraser island, I stayed at Colonial village. Its definately not your typical YHA. It has much more! My dorm room had NO bunks, a clean ensuite, a small back porch, and a near by clean kitchen/tv lounge. There is lots of space, also used for campers, cabins and apt units. Lots of grass space and a clean pool! I was able to do my laundry there, and the use of clothes lines was greatly appreciated! No close-by shops and no sidewalks on the way to the shopping centre (15 min walk) but cute enough town, and very friendly staff!

The place is nice, lots of space and green, birds and possums around.
Pros
- walking distance to the nearest supermarket. There is no sidewalk but is possible to walk
- if you do not want to walk they give you a lift in their way to the city to pickup or drop off guests
- pick up and drop off to the bus station and shopping center
- they have a pool
- lots of space to dry your clothes in the sun
- restaurant in the grounds
- huge dorm but no bunk beds
- the dryer machine costs US$ 1 for 10 minutes

Cons
- far from the city center
- expensive wi fi
- they also have camping grounds and camper vans and other types of accomodation besides the hostel
- everybody can access the place at any time
- we had a dorm room, 8 share, mixed, with no lockers, no place to leave the luggage, no hangers, nothing. It was only 8 beds.
- dorm room with two doors and one of those was to go to the tV room and kitchen. The noise was terrible. The room itself looked like a prison cell.
- awful sleeping quality because Hervey Bay is only a place to stay the night and wake up really early to go to Fraser Island. In a dorm full it was almost impossible to have a nice calm night of sleep.
- small kitchen with only four pans, not so clean and completely messy with more than one person using it.
- there is no beach near

We understand we are in a hostel but there are some standards a YHA hostel always follow and that is not the case. All the problems were underlined by the beauty of the grounds.

We payed US$ 22 for the room. They fail to tell us about a promotion.

Room Tip: Do not stay in the dorm with 8 beds near the kitchen: room 214

I came to Hervey Bay for the week and stayed here. The staff is super friendly and helpful, the rooms and the property are beyond clean and I couldn't have asked for a more pleasurable stay in Hervey Bay. The prices are very reasonable considering all the amenities offered. Waking up every morning here to the sound of the Kookaburras put a smile on my face. It was truly paradise!

Room Tip: I opted for the four person room and it was just perfect for what I was looking for.

We stayed at YHA Hervey Bay end of January. Even though the weather was dreadful (just before the floods!!) we had a really nice stay here. Nice, helpfull staff, a big camping area where we could put up our tent, a huge but at the same time cosy communal area with cheap meals and bar and nice kitchens. We really enjoyed it, and would defininately recommend it to anyone going to Hervey Bay, especially if you don't want a party hostel.
