“Two satisfied italians!”
Reviewed 23 August 2013

We absolutely recommend this hostel!
It is located in the middle of the nature, really close to the beaches and esplanade of Hervey Bay! The environment is friendly and so are the owners! You can have a billiard game in the living room while you wait for your dinner (home made pizzas were tasty!), you can play tennis, have some basketball or instead relax in the pool!!From time to time they organise bbqs, unfortunately we couldn't taste it personally.
The rooms, the kitchen and the bathrooms were basics but clean and comfortable, and that's what we really wished to find!
Moreover the transfer to and from the bus hub is free and provided by the guys the work there..

So: THUMBS UP FOR COLONIAL VILLAGE :)

This is easily the best hostel experience I have had in Australia! Could not fault one feature to my stay. Starting with the staff all the way through to the facilities. What's more is its great value for money.

This is a nice laid back, chilled hostel, has a lovely bar, serving cheap food and drinks. The kitchen areas are also well equipped and in good condition, along with the bedrooms and bathrooms, which are spacious and clean. A nice pool area and plenty of space to relax in the sun. Essentially the staff here make the whole experience a top one. With their recommendations we were able to have a truly unique experience both with our Fraser adventures and whale watching. We truly would have been clueless without their help. Really appreciate that they took the time to talk to us and found us a package which certainly exceeded all our desires and more.

I would definitely stay here again and leaving for the city was a sad departure. Get me back to Colonial Village!

The hostel was cheap, the bistro was great, we got free drink vouchers when we checked in. We stayed in the campsite, and it had everything you needed, kitchen, hot showers and even a pool and jacuzzi type thing.

The actual site is like a tropical rainforest brought to your hostel and Fraser the lorikeet at reception was beyond adorable. And it'll sit on your shoulder if you're nice :)

The managers made the hostel. Super friendly and had some great recommendations. We were looking to do a 4WD trip but without the tedious tour group and they found us a really good company that worked out way cheaper than the tour. And in the mean time they managed to get us out to go whale watching which actually made us late for our 4WD induction but they called up and sorted everything out so we could do both.

Whoever says the town or whatever is boring, just talk to the managers about what there is to do and they'll leave you happy customers.

Room Tip: I didn't stay in a room so I can't comment but couldn't undo the rating..

A lovely change from the other crowded campervan parks throughout the town. Spent time camping in their very spacious 8 acres, at the cheapest price in town as well. Amenities open 24 hours, and kept pretty clean. Nice atmosphere in the bar, with good priced drinks. My only suggestion, is more tea towels in the kitchen so more people would take care of their own dishes!!! (im sure they would leave more if people would stop stealing them)
YHA is reliable and does things well.. keep up the good work :)

slept there twice in one month, both times the town seemed completely dead, even though we sleeped there during october/november 2012 which usually is busy season in oz. pool is clean, staff was alright, seemed a bit annoyed by us (reckon mainly because we were the only young guests at this hostel). showers were clean and tidy, cant rate the rooms due to sleeping in our camper van. we had to pay to use the computers and the internet did not work properly at all, but this is just a minor detail.
a pro was the deals they offered to fraser island, would recommend that one to everyone.
overall score 3/5

Stayed here for one night whilst on a stopover in Hervey Bay. Was in a shared dorm of 8, found blood on my pillow. Rooms were very dark and noisy. Shared area were reasonable. Staff in reception friendly. Shower areas were grotty and damp. Location a long walk from centre of Hervey Bay/rest of the town. On our last day we had to pay to keep our luggage there as our bus wasn't until the evening, even though the hostel wasn't in peak season and was fairly quiet. Not brilliant.

The restaurant was very good with a lot of different choices !
