Drik Drik School House Retreat is a hidden gem that is located adjacent to the Glenelg River National Park, The old school house has been lovingly restored to provide a spacious kitchen dining and living area. A well designed bedroom wing has been added to provide roomy and very comfortable living for up to 6 people. The property itself is quite large and provides privacy and seclusion. It even has a vegetable garden. It truly is a retreat and we loved it. Why camp in the National Park when this superb place is available near by. It provides all the comforts of home for a very modest rental. We will be back.
Just what we needed. Peace, quiet, comfort, views, such a special place. Pet friendly too!!
The veggie patch was an added bonus. Made the best salads ever.
Everything you need is there. Quaint and functional too. Warm combustion fire, plenty of wood.
Day trips to Nelson, Portland, Pt Fairy if you feel the need to get out and about.
Bush walks galore.
Time and space. Loved it!!!!!
We booked this accommodation because we wanted some time out, away from the hustle and bustle, little did we know that we could have that and the opportunity to fill every day with adventure. From the onset both Barb and Barry made everything easy. We have 2 dogs and they were welcomed also.
The property has been very thoughtfully renovated, and all you really need to bring with you is your food and clothes, and there is even a bountiful vegie patch.
We arrived late on a cold dark night to a lovely warm house, with the fire already built. Bruce took the time to show us how to use the appliances in the house and to answer any questions.
In the morning we awoke to a awe inspiring country backdrop, alpacas and a cemetery full of history. I do recommend taking the time to read the history manuals regarding the school, the butter factory and on Drik Drik its self.
The area itself offers majestic forests, the beautiful Glenelg River, abundance of wild life and for the keen the Great South West Walk. Drik Drik is centrally located with very easy drives to Portland, Heywood, Mt Gambier and the Limestone Coast. The nearby township of Dartmoor is worth dropping into and looking at all the carvings that line the main street and the village green.
We are already planning our next visit, and next time we will stay even longer.

We enjoyed a wonderful family weekend at the Old School House. Barb and Bruce were most hospitable hosts and we were provided with all you could require. We also enjoyed a walk along a nearby section of the Great South West Walk alongside the banks of the Glenelg. . We look forward to a return visit!
