Perfectly suitable for overnight travellers. The manager is lovely and helpful, and her dogs really add character and talking points. Not very central, but only a two minute drive to cafes and shops. The motel is dated but clean.

We had no trouble locating this sweet, albeit somewhat older motel. Our room is good sized for the price, well appointed, very clean and the owner is a dear lady who would do anything for you.
The neighborhood is quiet, just a few blocks from downtown - and a great place to be to see the area. We would recommend it in a heart beat - unless you are the type who needs to "sleep under the stars", in which case you probably shouldn't be stopping in Portland.

It was tidy and comfortable and cheap
Great for a stay
Older style and in residential location but comfortable and just what we needed.
Owner was lovely and helpful
Recommend the " Gordon" hotel for a meal too

Stayed at this motel last week. It took us 2 hours plus a visit to the local police station to locate this place in the dark. The proprietor informed us that the street signage is turned off at 8.30pm (which just happens to co-incide with onset of darkness). We finally managed to locate it, a rather shabby older-style motel. It is in a residential area and is extremely hard to see in the dark.

The lights outside the units were not on either so we had to unload our luggage with just solar garden stakes for light, surely a safety issue. The owner was rather rude about us being late which was what we DIDN'T need after two hours of driving around Portland in the dark, looking for the Motel when we were exhausted after travelling all day.
We entered our motel unit to be confronted by an empty softdrink bottle and a pizza box! This did raise concerns about the cleanliness of the place if such obvious rubbish had been overlooked.
We were in a twinshare unit and over the duration of our 3 night stay the main bed was not made up at all although the single was made up. There was no explanation for this.
The third day we were there we had a day trip to Penola and Mt Gambier. We did not arrive back until about 10.30pm and much to our dismay realised we had locked the key in the room. After contemplating sleeping in the car we plucked up the courage to ring the bell at the office. The proprietor answered promptly, fully dressed so obviously she wasn't in bed. Realising that it was a real inconvenience we apologised profusely for disturbing her at that hour of the night. She was extremely rude, dressed us down like naughty children and told us if we were not well we shouldn't be travelling......obviously a reference to our age (both in our 60's so not quite ready for the scrapheap yet!). She also demanded payment there and then as she said she would be too busy the next morning. Too busy to farewell guests? Surely this is just a basic coutesy.
We did draw her attention to the condition of our room but there was no apology whatsoever forthcoming. We felt it would be totally pointless mentioning the unmade bed with the attitude she was exhibiting. We made our departure as soon as possible the next morning.
A very disappointing experience and not one we would ever care to repeat ever again. We regularly travel around Australia and have never encountered such rudeness from anyone working in the hospitality industry (or anywhere else for that matter)
Save yourself a similar experience, keep well away from this establishment.
