We stayed here for 2 nights while delaying our trip west due to awful weather along the south coast of Victoria.

Good friendly reception with a small carton of fresh milk (not long life) and free WiFi for the room which was unlimited and fast. What a change from lots of other motels and cabins we have stayed at!

The room was very spacious, clean and had fresh up to date décor. There was a separate little alcove which had the (very small) frig and workbench for toaster, microwave and a cupboard containing ironing board and clothes hanger etc. Some plates, cutlery and glasses, jug and toiletries completed the full array of facilities as well as usual TV and air/con.

My wife even used the FREE laundry washing machine and drier to catch up on our washing.

The room was quiet, had a good sized desk and lighting to work at and bed comfortable. We had 2 good nights sleep.

Motel is located quite close to the bottom end of the main shopping street within walking distance to the supermart.

All in all, a good place to stay in Portland.

My husband and I have stayed at the Melaluka several times over the last few years and always find it clean and comfortable. The rooms are generously sized. The Owners have always bent over backwards to make sure our stay is enjoyable and it is this attention to customer service that make this my choice when staying in Portland. People need to consider, when booking, that this is a budget motel and therefore can't expect 5 star accommodation but they can be assured that at the Melaluka they will get clean and comfortable and functional accommodation, close to the town centre, and exceptional service.

Room Tip: The rooms up the back seem to be quieter and have slightly more bench space in the bathroom.

The Melaleuca Motel was taken over by new owners in March 2013. We really appreciate all reviews as that lets us know how we are doing with our guests. We have implemented a number of changes at the Melaleuca Motel that should be of great benefit to all our guests. We now have Free unlimited WiFi for all guests; we have put crockery and cutlery in all our rooms; we supply all our guests with hand towels and face washers and aromatherapy products in the bathrooms; our tea, coffee and biscuits are now a reputable brand and very tasty; we have new electric blankets on our queen beds; we have installed a night bell for guests to call us during the night and we are currently installing larger flatscreen TV's in the rooms. We do hope al our guests will come back again soon.

Nice lady for welcoming us, very clean room and bathroom, not too large for us three but OK for one night. Quiet during the night, but the light outside was coming through the curtains. Necessary things for breakfast. Beds very comfy. Still a bit expensive. Once the office is closed down...difficult to be helped, no bell outside.

The motel room was large, clean and comfortable. It was very convenient to have a microwave (as well as a fridge, kettle and toaster) in the room. The main problem for me was that there was a lot of light emitted from the smoke detector, and that the compressor (I guess) for the group of units heater-cooler was just outside my bathroom - and VERY noisy. I could hear it even when wearing earplugs. However, once everybody had gone to bed it turned itself off.

The motel location was excellent - quiet, but only a short walk to town, and (more or less) just a hop to the tram.

Room Tip: I don't know if the upper block of units have the same compressor problem, but I wouldn't recommend Room 14. My father stayed in Room 12, and didn't have a problem.
