Travelling through the north of Spain and came across Sopeira by accident, around lunchtime. Walking around the small town overlooking a small lake, we found Case Pase, which apparently a Truismo Rural, but also has a separate Bar and Restaurant. It is located in the middle of Sopeira on a horizontal street with a significant terrace area in front, and outdoor seatings under a number of mature trees overlooking the lake. Casa Pase appears to be a traditional bar /restaurant with a strong local following. As our Spanish is terrible, and the owners English about equivalent, we ended up agreeing to a luncheon banquet ( unaware of course). This amounted to three courses of amazing traditional dishes, that were both a pleasure and a culinary experience ( for us). To start with the expected mixed salad full of the expected, a full dish of prawns, and a small plate of pate. Second serving consisted of a plate of cured meat and cheese, along with a medium plate of SNAILS served in a onion gravy, accompanied by a plate of bread. The final serving was a large slice of melon topped with a sauce, and a more delicate selection of meat. All in all the experience took about an hour and will be remembered for a long time. To top it off we thought that we would be hit with a huge bill, but instead, it was one of the most reasonable cost for a long lunch that we have experienced in our journey. Would I recommend Case Pase ? - On that adventure i would go out of my way to go back.
