We chose to stay here both prior to leaving and then returning to New Zealand. We had completely different experiences each stay.
First, on booking, I chose this hotel because it was the best price, but then there were added costs (extra for the children, despite booking the standard family unit)
Our first stay at the end of June was nearly faultless. We were in a newer unit, the cleaning could have been better and there was a spray of coke or something on our bedroom wall
When we arrived home to Auckland Airport, we had by then been traveling for around 45 hours. I had slept for around 4 hours out of 60. So were were pretty tired (well, beyond that really). We had 3 kids with us, (16 with special needs, 15 and 11). We called for the shuttle at 1.40pm, only to be told they don't send the shuttle before check in time, and could we please call back at 2pm. This seemed very petty and really inconvenient to us. If they had sent the shuttle, we would have arrived at the hotel about 2.10pm.
When we arrived and got to our room, it was in the older wing and was very tired.
We were going to shower, rest and then go out to dinner with my eldest son who lives in Auckland.
But there no hot water. The guy who could fix it had been up since 4am, so couldn't fix it right away. Someone would come and look at it later - which meant no rest for us.
So we just left and went to my son's place. When we got back after dinner the water was hot. The kids were far too tired by then so went to bed, to shower in the morning.
As we spent more time in there, we noticed how uncared for the room was. Tea stains in the kitchen sink, stains on the drapes, nets longer than the drapes, scuffs and missing paint, mold in the bathroom, even a rotten board, as well as moss or algae growing in the shower. To me there is no need for this, these are easily prevented or fixed.
It is strange to have two such very different experiences at the same place.
I would not go back there again as it is only 50/50 I would have a good experience. And, I want to get picked up when I arrive, not have to wait a stupid 20 minutes till is suits someone else when I have dragged my kids around the world for the last 3 days.
One good thing? The beds were blissfully comfortable. Thank you for that! Most are too hard for me and I wake up sore.
