This hotel delivers half of the typical Ibis experience: clean rooms (but really tiny!) and comfortable beds. Since it's the budget version of the brand, no breakfast is on offer and wifi is available for a charge, even for members of their loyalty program who have "earned" free wifi. There was a shuttle to the airport, but it's close enough that we walked.

Happy to read your room was clean & the bed was comfortable! New King beds coming this December once the expansion is complete I hear these beds are even better!!

Breakfast is on offer every day from 0430 - 0930 ( till 1000 on the weekends) this is $12 per person if booked on-line it is $10. Regrettably ibis budget worldwide & some selected hotels are exempted from the payment of points and other loyalty benefits your would find in our other Accor properties from ibis styles up to Pullman / Sofitel hotels (some of these are exempted). These are available to you via member service if you did want to look into excluded brands/hotels further.

I get that this is a Ibis Budget hotel, I just didn't realise that the 'budget' part related to general maintenance of the property...

I chose to stay here as I was flying in late from Australia before heading off early to meetings in the city.

I had low expectations of what to expect from the hotel - possibly a small room, maybe none of the basics such as tea/coffee, space to walk around, etc. What I found though was really disappointing.

Firstly, the blind that (I assume) was supposed to cover the window and block out light from the surrounding buildings and 24/7 airport was broken - no amount of pulling, tugging, or trying to jerry-rig the blind in the down position worked - so sleep involved a room bathed in light.

Secondly, the room was a twin - but one of the beds was clearly broken - like, it's on a weird angle to the naked eye...and upon further investigation I find two of the legs on the LHS are broken - I just can't believe that this bed would be changed and deemed fit for the next guest(s) given it was clearly broken.

Finally, hot water - budget or otherwise this is clearly a minimum requirement...

Overall, I was disappointed with the hotel. It honestly felt like a property that is being driven into the ground by poor maintenance, guests that don't care for the hotel, and a lack of local competitors who might force management to lift their game.

Always use this hotel when I have an early morning flight leaving from the international terminal the following morning. It's not worth the risk having your flight from Wellington delayed so for under $90 this hotel is great. The rooms are small but what do you expect when your hotel is 600 meters from the domestic arrivals hall and your only staying for a few hours. The best bit is the $6 airport bus that picks you up every 30 minutes from about 4am in the morning and takes you to the international terminal. They don't usually take a credit card deposit either which is a real bonus for budget travellers!

Room Tip: No tips, the rooms are small but if you want a decent room pay $250 for the Novotel at the internati...

New rooms are coming in this December, 73 more, when you're in next make sure you ask for one of the King bedded rooms I hear they will be very comfortable!!!!

We stayed here for 2 nights a week apart, on our way to and from Cairns on early morning flights.

The first time everything went smoothly. The yellow bus arrived at the domestic terminal about 15 minutes after our flight arrived. Receptionist on check in was friendly and efficient. Plenty of food places nearby - a supermarket next door, fast food, and apparently the restaurant in the building is really good (though we didn't go).

The room was clean, very compact (barely room for us and our luggage!) and fine for an overnight stay. We had a massive queen bed (with a bonus bunk bed over the top) for the 2 of us (you don't get to choose double or twin when booking). It was firm and comfortable, with clean sheets. The bathroom was again small but the shower had great water pressure.

The next morning the yellow airport bus arrived promptly on the dot of 5.05am (they're scheduled at every .05 and .35 past the hour), so we were well in time for our flight.

One issue was that the long fluorescent light next to the bed clicked, and didn't stop clicking after it had been turned off for awhile (which kept us awake). The next time we stayed we made sure to turn off this light as soon as we got in the room.

We had some other noise overnight, especially as we were right next to the lifts, but we weren't expecting a great sleep when we had to get up at 4am anyway.

There also appear to be barely any power points in the rooms - just 2 that I could find, and none by the beds. This is pretty weird for such an obviously modern hotel, and frustrating when you want to charge devices before the flight.

Our next night's stay, everything was just as good. Friendly staff, clean room. This time we had 2 single beds which wasn't ideal, but they were good sized and again comfortable.

We had to be at the airport at 6.20am to check our bags, so we went downstairs at 5.50pm to await the 6.05 airport bus. It didn't turn up.

Other guests asked the staff member at the desk how far away the bus was. He contacted the bus driver by radio, who advised at 6.10am that it was 5 minutes away. So we waited. It showed up after 6.20am (turned out another bus had broken down), and we missed our flight check in by minutes. Thankfully Air NZ were great and put us on the next flight.

Obviously I don't blame the Ibis for a bus breakdown and poor communication by the driver. But the most important function of an airport hotel is to get you to the airport, and it would be nice if they had better contingencies in place for a bus breakdown. A backup shuttle or something.

If you're staying at the Ibis and intend to bus to the airport, definitely get up early enough to aim for the bus before the one you think you should take (if that makes sense). Don't be complacent like we were! And if you'd rather sleep in, walk, or spend the extra to stay somewhere else...!

Glad to see you enjoyed your stays with us minus the clicking light, some noise & a late bus! Apologies for these inconveniences, we have replaced a lot of the vertical lights as they were very near their life expectancy!

NZ Bus Travel who operate the bus service between Auckland Airport and the hotels are very reliable. With adding another bus to their airport fleet their service has improved and are generally always on time. ( This was added mid August )

We stayed 2 nights 1 night before our early morning flight and 1 night on late night return, both times check in was easy and fast. The rooms are small but clean. We just needed somewhere to sleep and shower and this was perfect. For the price we paid I think this was great value.
