“Ok Cheap Hotel”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 August 2014

This place is pretty crap, but, it's only a 15 minute walk or $5 shuttle to the International Airport, only costs $99, and is a short walk to fast food places and supermarkets.

It's good if you have an early flight, or don't want to waste money on a taxi from Auckland to the airport - if you have a hire car, drop it off at the airport and stay here before your flight.

The Novotel at the airport is better, located across the road from the International Airport entrance, but it costs 3 times as much as Ibis.

I was impressed with this hotel, you get what you pay for.The room was really clean and bed comfy. It was perfect for the 1 night even though others have complained no shampoo etc.We had a lovely meal next door to the hotel,so I would recommend this hotel if you want the basics.

Stayed at the Ibis budget as had to pick up someone at midnight. Having stayed at several Ibis elsewhere we were confident that this would be similar, but a bit more basic.
We didn't realise how basic. No glasses, no hairdryer. No alarm clock.
Rooms were very small. we paid $10.00 more in another city, and had everything that this hotel didn't.
It felt like a flash backpackers. Would never stay here again.

A bed close to the airport is pretty much all you get.

A bed, shower and some towels, with only 2 electrical sockets (not one of them near the beds!). The lack of sockets, combined with no alarm clock must mean that people have missed flights in the past!

Free wifi is something you take for granted these days, but no chance of it here. To pay for it was really expensive as well!

No glasses for water, no coffee or tea, and not even a rubbish bin.

At least the beds were comfortable. Then again, the beds were about 15cm away from eachother, so it is a bit of a squeeze (especially if you have any luggage!). The room was very clean...but there wasn't really much to clean!

The shuttle to the airport costs $5 per person...even though the airport is right around the corner! For families with children this can quickly add up, and take away the "budget" element of the stay.

Don't let proximity to the airport draw you in. I would recommend staying a little bit further out in a place which offers a free shuttle to the airport (and probably free wifi, breakfast etc).

We've stayed a couple of times now when we've had early flights overseas. It's fine if you just want a bed but expect no frills at all. The rooms are very small and they fill them with king size beds(?) making movement around the room for a couple difficult. As others have outlined, no kettle for a cuppa and no second pillow. But it is very clean and tidy, handy to cafés in the attached shopping centre and very close to Airport terminals so if all that you want is a bed and shower before heading off it's just fine.

This is very much a no frills hotel - probably the closest hotel to AKL airport other than the the sky-high priced Novotel.

The amenities are spartan. Bed; towels; TV; shower; a few plugs to charge items; and thats about it.

No glasses for water or drinking, no coffee or tea, and no shampoo toiletries. Bring your own.

We slept comfortable although the thermostat was difficult to control. A family of four was packed into a room with one queen bed and a two-high stacked set of bunk bets. Thankfully, the lower bunk is about 2 feet above the floor - otherwise there would have been virtually no room for baggage storage.

Two knocks on this property. Their wifi is rather expensive which detracts from the value of the room. And, the shuttle to the terminals is not free. $6 per person each way. Kids under 12 or so are free. But, if you have a family of teens, the bus fee can very quickly eliminate the value of the hotel room. You could theoretically walk from the airport, but I would not recommend doing this any time when it is dark.

We attempted to stay here on the return to AKL, but found that the sum of the room charges, the internet fee and the bus made it cheaper for us to stay down the road at a property that had free wifi and a free shuttle.

Do price shop!
