Review of Grainstore Gallery

Grainstore Gallery
Ranked #10 of 33 things to do in Oamaru
Attraction details

Full of quirky, very creative and imaginative people, this old grainstore is not what you would expect to find in a rural New Zealand centre..the whole Precinct area is wonderful and I can see why international movie makers use it so often.

So much to look at, something new everywhere you turn. Feels like being backstage in a theatre props room.

She puts a lot of effort into this stuff but it just looks like rubbish to me! However I know a lot of people like it so you should check it out.

Hello....this response is a very late one but I would like to query your need to call a fellow local small business rubbish (art is after all a subjective matter) on an international review forum. I had been keen on flying lessons (my father flew Cessnas and the old Grummond Goose seaplanes round the Hauraki Gulf when I was a kid and co-established the North Shore Aero Club which is now a pretty big outfit) but decided better of it based on this unkind comment of yours. Maybe people should try harder to support each others efforts in such a small community....just a thought!

So much to look at, so little time... Oamaru's Grainstore Gallery runs as a collective and shows work by local artists working in multiple media.
Emergent and established names include Donna Demente, Jim Adams, Andy Galaxy and Elizabeth King.
Unlike any other gallery you'll visit in New Zealand. Enter with an open mind.

I recently, Oct 2010, visited the Grainstore Gallery in Oamaru for the second time. I absolutely love the space, the decor, the floor, the atmosphere and the fabulous paper mache'. After speaking with the lady behind the counter, i found out that the big paper mache heads is a workshop done by the artist. This is one thing i would love to do, and to be able to stay in the wonderful town of Oamaru is a bonus. Also if visiting this historic place, be sure also to make the trip out to Moeraki where you will find the Moeraki Boulders and the best restaurant in NZ - Fleurs Place but make sure you book! Loved the whole experience of NZ South Island and i live in a fabulous place called Noosa in Queensland Australia.
