“Ocean view- purpose built -immaculate”
Reviewed 9 April 2014

Old Bones is a delight. The kitchen is very well equipped and squeaky clean. The common living/dining area has beautiful garden and ocean views. Our room was cosy and clean with plenty of extra bed linens and towels. The host was most gracious.
There is a lovely ocean-side walk close by.

we loved the old bones, from first contact till we left we were totally happy with our choice.
we were staying on a powered site with our little camper van. the main house with guestrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and a lounge are really comfortable and very clean and the best we found on our travel through nz. we loved to warm ourselfes at the chimney at the lounge after a long day out. gloria is a wonderful host and was so helpful. when we needed a vaccination for our further travels she was calling all the medical centers around and finally helped us to arrange an appointment in queenstown. she was the most welcoming host we met and was always there for your needs and with recommendations what to do and were to eat around the area.
old bones location is a bit outside omaru, close to the ocean with a beautyful seaview from the lounge. it is quiet and peaceful. we enjoyed our very relaxing stay and would come back anytime.
dont miss out fleurs place in moeraki, the best seafood restaurant in this area.
thanks for everything gloria

Having travelled non-stop for many days we were so happy to find this place on our way up the East Coast. The location is beautiful, so close to the beach and only a short drive from Oamaru. We were warmly greeted by the reception lady (management was away), she made us feel welcome and relaxed right away! We later met the lady in charge and she was also very friendly. We immediately liked the common area, which is bright and airy with a high ceiling and big panoramic windows facing the ocean. Relaxing music was played on a low volume and in the evenings we enjoyed the cosy lounging area by the warm fireplace. Staff always made sure there was enough wood to keep the fire going all evening. Kitchen was nice and well equipped, but could get a little busy around dinner time. Bathrooms was immaculately clean as was our room. It was quite small but so delicate with a lovely made up bed, fluffy pillows and a verandah door leading out to the grass lawn. You have to go through the common areas to go to the bathrooms, but this was ok for us. We enjoyed the free Wifi, tea and coffee and spices. We initially planned to stay for just one night, but ended up extending our stay. We left with fully charged batteries and many good memories!

YES, thats the Place where I want to live and to stay. Gloria and Wayne are very friendly and every time helpful Owners. Tidy and clean Rooms, a Shower with full Power and a surround for dreaming direct on the Beach.

Thats for us around New Zealand one from the nicest places where we stayed.

Booked in here for one night the night before Xmas eve but liked it so much we stayed another two nights. The common room with log fire was very cozy with stunning views over the ocean. It's just a short drive into Oamaru with all the attractions it offers.
We were lucky enough to have the first night to ourselves which was truly magical.
The hostel itself was spacious, clean and with excellent facilities, the best shower and bed we have had in the whole of New Zealand while travelling.
The owner was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
If you want something special this Is truly the place to stay, myself and my family were sorry to leave.

We arrived at Old Bones on a sunny afternoon of November. Apart from the well-known beautiful scenic beach view, the house is also located beside a beautiful farm where we could see sheep and cattle. The lodge has a stunning living room where you could see the vast coast line. Relaxing or eating in the living room was a complete luxury.

The vast grassland before the lodge and the stunning beach view is gorgeous. The sunrise in the morning was dream like!

Cooking facilities are very good and the public bathroom is very clean.

It is 10 minute drive away from downtown Oamaru, a wonderful town in the southeast coast of the South Island. It was very convenient to travel to either the town or penguin watch sites with a car after checking in. We were able to see the rehearsal parade of the Victorian Festival – a must see event if you are there in mid-November.

Gloria was very hospitable and friendly. And she has a lovely puppy who is no less friendly! Many thanks and we look forward to visiting next time.
