Forget London's Brick Lane, this is the best Indian I have had, and what are the chances it would be in my home town? Great staff, great location, full menu, proper Indian beers - all adds up to an authentic dining experience, right down to the Indian after meal freshener. Staff are genuinely pleased to see you, food is to die for, and as a local I would not go anywhere else.
For the beer snobs out there (its a good thing) the Indian Cafe happens to be across the road from the Free House, which is likely the best non-affiliated pub in the South Island. Its like some sort of social engineering experiment to have fine craft beer and perfect indian so closely located.
The Indian Cafe is always a pleasure to take friends and visitors as it is reliably better than most (all?) other Indian restaurant options in town, or around NZ. The only real surprise are the extremely reasonable prices.
You will not be disappointed.
