The view is what gives the greatest impact here. We stayed in the twin-bedded room with two huge windows overlooking the harbour and private seating area outside. The so-called 'private' bathroom is only private in that guests in that particular room are the only ones who use it. However, it does, as has previously been said, involve walking through the guest lounge to get to it. I'm not sure the view was worth the inconvenience.
Judy was very friendly though not as informative as other reviewers have suggested and is rather garrulous. The house is at the top of a steep hill and not easy to find initially. Parking is also rather tight.
The view is absolutely amazing, of that there is no doubt. Everything else, however, was somewhat average.

The amazing view of Nelson Harbour is what initially strikes you when you arrive followed by the warmth of the hostess, Judy, who can't do enough for you. Importantly Harbour View is spotlessly clean. As others have stated the lack of any or adequate en-suite facilities is a problem if this is something that you set store by; if you stay in the twin-bedded room the walk to the bathroom does go through the living/dining area where other guests may be eating breakfast. The breakfast is adequate with very good fresh fruit salad but rather dubious croissants - a cooked breakfast is something you pay extra for. That said you really do feel at home and Judy made our visit memorable and warm.

Spectacular views of the harbour entrance. Good accommodation but if you like to walk, bear in mind that it is situated on a very steep hill. You have the use of a comfortable lounge which is great. Good breakfast too. Judy our hostess, a gregarious lady gave us lots of useful information as to where to go.

Room Tip: The garden room with two single beds is a really nice sized room but this didn't have an ensuite...

We are a family of four with two teenagers. Judy and David have three rooms. My wife and I had one of the two that have a bathroom. Our boys stayed in the one that has two twin beds and no en suite bath. The place is comfortable enough; however, for two rooms (ours had no view and a very small bathroom) and a continental breakfast, they charged us $300/night. In our experience in NZ, that is more than a bit excessive. The night prior we had a 3-bdrm house in the wine country to ourselves for $150/night. The views from the lounge, balcony and a couple of the rooms are lovely, but we didn't feel the experience was worth the cost.

Stayed there for 3 nights. We had a choice of rooms & picked the one with excellent views out to sea. The bed was very comfortable, the only downside was the very small bathroom. Judy the host was of great help in what to do & where to go(does like to talk thou). The views from the balcony were great, just sitting their with a glass of wine watching the sunset
. Breakfast was very good/filling. if you are disabled or very unfit i would'nt recommend this place or area. The steps to the house are steep & to get to & from the centre(walking) is up & down hill. We did a full day wine tour(Baytours). Picked up from the main rd(5 min walk) Rick the driver was very knowledgeable & it was a great day, def recommend baytours(booked at the I-Sitre 98 NZD each) We also did a full day in the Abel Tasman National Park. we went on a catamaran run by Sea Shuttle from nelson itself, this is a good idea & saves an hours drive to get to Kaiteriteri(20 NZD return). We booked the discovery tour $184 for two., which went to different locations, dropped off at one & picked up further down the coast after a good walk. Had dinner at the Boat Shed Cafe, very nice food, but bring your sunglasses if your sitting out side late afternoon/sunset time. Not far from where sea shuttle is based their is Havens fish & chip shop, next to Guytons seafood restaurant. The chipy cooks the food to order & it was lovely. Had a great time in Nelson, B&B was great, days out were superb, food was excellent, all in all Nelson was probably the best place we stayed in during our trip to NZ

If Joy and David are going out for their evening walk make sure you tag along, I cannot say anymore for it would kill the surprise, but it is spectacular. Also make sure you have a nice chilled bottle of wine and a good book because you could spend hours just sitting on the decking looking over the Nelson sound.

We stayed 3 days in Nelson and could not have picked a better Homestay/B&B. It was hard to choose between the bedrooms. Both have spectacular views. One has a queen bed with ensuite and the other has twin beds with a private bath. We opted for the twin beds as it was a bit bigger and had a patio door leading to the huge deck. As the name implies it overlooks the harbour and what a beautiful view (see attached photo).

Judy serves a very complete Continental Breakfast. You have use of the entire floor and outside deck. Judy lives on the second floor.
The house is very clean and everything is comfortable and spacious. And the price was great at $150 NZ.

Ask Judy for her recommendations on restaurants. She even allowed us to bring back fish and chips from the local diner and eat on the private deck.

Highly recommended.
