Cant eat this place, great rooms with oodles of space and comfort, spectacular views of the sea and mountains from the deck, wonderful food and great craft beers. Locals are very friendly and reception just great. Just shows what a change it is to stay away from chain hotels. Might as well stay for the weekend as well.

Room Tip: Sea views are best,

Hi There,

Thank you for your kind feedback!
It certainly is a 'Slice of England in Nelson'. We aim to not only make our Restaurant décor keep to that theme, but also our style of Hotel Rooms. Though we do have a little more space than the big England cities! We are glad to hear you enjoyed the views that overlook The Point, it is quite a unique location and convenient driving distance to both the airport and town centre, while still maintaining a 'relaxed retreat' and 'home away from home' feel.
We hope to see you again soon for another Honest Meal and Honest stay!

Kind Regards,
The Honest Lawyer

We recently had a family gathering at The Honest Lawyer and had a happy experience. We were seated in a cosy room away from the main area and had a nice dinner. Only thing was it was a bit fishy smelling when we arrived.

Hi There,

Thank you very much for your review. We are glad you enjoyed your time with us for your family get together, isn't our establishment unique?
The odd fishy smell may have been our delicious chowder. It is a popular dish but you are quite right, sometimes it has a distinctive smell.
We hope to see you back again in the future!

I don't think I've ever stayed anywhere with more friendly, willing staff. Really makes the stay!
This is my second trip stay here and I wouldn't stay anywhere else. This cute British styled pub is a short drive from the main city of Nelson on the way to wine country. The rooms are clean, and gorgeously decorated in the period of the hotel. Well heated in the winter time too! The food is lovely and hearty, and the staff are brilliant. Certainly not expensive in comparison to other hotels, and much much more charming! Highly recommended!

Hi There,

Thank you very much for your review, we are glad to receive such fantastic feedback.
We definitely agree, especially about our lovely and hearty food! Not a lot beats a hot and hearty meal prepared by our talented chefs on a cold Nelson day. Or any day of the year! We will pass on your words to our staff and tell them to keep up the great work.
Thank you once again, and we hope to see you again!

Stayed here for two nights while on business in the area - the location is perfect for Airport and main road links as well as being close to local shops etc
The food served in the bar is first class both at breakfast and evening and would certainly stay again next time in Nelson.

Room Tip: The airport being close does cause a little noise - but as there are not too many flights in or out...

Hi There,

Thank you for your review and feedback. As you were here on business, we thought you may like to know that we are just about to announce or Corporate Collection. This is where businesses can sign onto the Collection and receive discounts and Corporate rates! You also mentioned you enjoyed your breakfast (Thank you we will tell the Chef!), and our Corporate Collection members actually receive a Free Breakfast when they stay with us.
Perhaps you can keep this in mind for your next stay in Nelson.
We hope to see you again soon!

We found the environment higgily piiggily. The tables were crowded and we felt a bit stuffed in a corner. The decor was off putting, the spiderwebs in particular. My daughter got the fish of the day (the most expensive meal on the menu) and found the fish to be old and tough, not what you would expect for the price we payed. The other meals were average ,the veggie /falafel burger being mushy and undercooked. They need other items on the children's menu apart from hotdogs and chips. All in all it was expensive and disapointing. On a good note the staff were friendly tho they do need to brush up on their knowledge of wine- Pinot Gris is not Chardonnay. sue from Nelson.

Hi There,

Thank you for your review, and for giving us a few pointers on improvements. We welcome all feedback and relish the opportunity to improve every experience at The Honest Lawyer.
We are disappointed to hear that your meal with us was not satisfactory, as our talented Chefs are usually producing delicious dishes.
Our décor is meant to have a cosy and comfortable feel, so we apologise that this was not how it appeared on the day you dined with us. We do re-arrange the tables sometimes to make a little more room in the restaurant when we need to shut off part of it for a function. Perhaps this was what had occurred when you dined with us. Your feedback will be passed along to the Chef and to our staff so that we can hope to improve your experience with us next time.
Thank you once again for your feedback and we hope to see you back in the restaurant again soon!

Walked in through the garden into the Bar and was greeted with a friendly welcome. Can we set up a Tab? No problem the barperson said. What would you like? We sat down surrounded by rustic artefacts from years gone by. The meal service was excellent and the staff very friendly.
The meal was well presented and very generous. We ordered a cheese platter but the generosity of the serve would take too long to consume so they wrapped it up for consumption in our room. We were so impressed we came back for breakfast and then dinner the following night. Great spot and lovely staff.

Quaint Tudor style original.
My favorite is the rose cottage as it offers privacy and has a real home feel.
Have stayed in the regular rooms before which are nicely appointed too but can be noisy if you happen to stay near the honeymoon suite....( lots of nocturnal noise if you know what I mean)
Great staff and fantastic pub downstairs which means you can merely stumble up after having had a few of their fine ales......
