When we arrived in Nelson we had no idea where to stay so headed to the Information Centre. While waiting in the queue we picked up the card for Ascot Lodge and phoned Lynn & Stephan. Right from the first "Hello" I knew we had found the right place for us.
When we arrived at Ascot Lodge the welcome was like coming home from holiday. Lynn & Stephan told us all about what to see, where to go and made us so welcome. Over the nights we were there it was like staying with friends but having the freedom of our own accomodation.
We are in the mature age group but I believe that people of any age would enjoy their hospitality. By the time we left 5 nights later it was tears and hugs just like saying good bye to close friends. We will never forget our time at Ascot Lodge and are planning our next trip to NZ, from Australia, to include some nights in Nelson.
Thank you Lynn and Stephan, you are very special people and made the 5 nights we spent with you the highlight of our holiday.

We arrived here with an itinerary that took us down the west coast to Queenstown, then we heard that the bridge at Harihari had been taken out by floods so we had to arrange our whole itinerary, Lyn & Steve were helpfull to the extreem in assisting us with all the new arrangements that we had to make. Nothing was too much trouble in assisting us and made the next week of our holiday a joy to behold. The accommodation we had with the 2 bedrooms was clean, neat and tidy and had a deck and outside furniture along with plenty of sunshine, just what we wanted.
Stay here and you will not be dissapointed.

Room Tip: We had the two bedroom unit at the end of the drive complete with full kitchen.

Thanks for your kind comments, we enjoyed having you all here. We followed the weather as you progressed and it looked a bit of a mixed bag but hope your friends managed their flight to see Mt Cook & the Glaciers. Also hope they managed to get out to Milford Sound, at least by air it sounded more of a chance than by land!

We just spent three nights here and I really couldn't imagine better accommodation. Our unit was in such impeccable shape that it looked like it was built yesterday. The beds were super comfortable, with bedside lamps. The kitchen was perfect. It was so awesome having a comfortable sofa! And the hostess was incredibly informative and helpful yet never imposing. Nearby Tahunanui Beach is amazing. Don't worry about the airport; the planes going in are small and I barely noticed them, and they don't fly at night anyway. The property itself is dead quiet. You will not regret staying here.

I feel that I must echo all the other reviews so far. Spotlessly clean was my very first thought on arrival. The best kind of hosts possible - attentive yet discrete. The extra care taken with my requirements for my elderly aunt were beyond the call of duty and I will definitely stay here again and recommend it to anybody else going to Nelson. Location is perfect, quiet yet within minutes of the city, and of the wineries and galleries. 2 bedrooms, a lounge and a full kitchen for a very reasonable price. The amazing little things - biscuits for our arrival, milk type of our choice, newspaper delivered every morning, shower soap in a dispenser. Really... faultless.

Thank you to Lynn and Stephan for an excellent stay at their 2 bedroom motel unit in Nelson. The 2 bedroom unit came complete with a kitchen, private deck with dining table. It was beyond spotless and very comfortable. If it had been available for the next few nights we would have stayed longer. They also had an nice bbq area at the end of the motel units, for all to use. This motel is walking distance to the beach, I ran the beach the morning we left and wished I had more time to spend there. Lynn is also an artist and I was thrilled to buy a piece of her artwork, she did a quick demonstration to show us us how she creates her art. (Encaustic art, an ancient art form dating back 2500 years)
Thank you for a memorable stay!

We stayed at Ascot Lodge in April 2011 and have found it really hard to better it during our extended 9 week stay in the country. We visit our daughter, who lives in New Zealand, on an annual basis and we always travel around the South Island sampling the delights of this wonderful country. We were undecided as to whether we wanted to be nearer the city centre but came down on the side of peace and quiet in the suburbs and we were not disappointed. We did not want to take the car into town so we availed ourselves of the short bus ride into the city and the bus stop was a few minutes walk from the lodge - perfect. The accommodation was just brilliant - we had a 2 bedroomed unit as we wanted to have a full cooker and the kitchen was really well equipped, very clean and, also, to our delight, we could recycle with gusto, even our vegetable peelings went for the worm farm - amazing. The unit was spotlessly clean and neat and extremely comfortable with everything we could possibly need. We even had delicious home made biscuits on our arrival and all this at a very competitive price. Lynn and Stephan were most gracious hosts and Lynn gave us some very valuable information on living in New Zealand (we have put in an application to settle there) and was a font of useful facts. They are both very well travelled and have huge knowledge on lots of subjects and we wished we could have stayed longer. All in all this is a wonderful place to stay and it is obvious that they have both put a lot of hard work and love into this business and it shows from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. Don't bother staying in those fancy boutique hotels - this is the place to be. Thank you Lynn and Stephan - we will be back next year - don't you dare move!!!!!

Ascot lodge was a very lucky find. The moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome. Both Lynn & Stephen were superb hosts and what they have created in their desire to please their guests is outstanding. The room was excellent, immaculately clean, comfortable and spacious and yet was one of the cheapest we found on our whole trip to New Zealand ($128). We were close to the beach which was clean, safe and very spacious. It was interesting watching the kite surfers (Steven told us of a short cut to the beach which made it even nearer) and the location of the motel was very quiet. Their garden was a little haven of peace. Our room had full cooking facilities, air conditioning and a king size bed. When we left Stephen even printed off a special guide sheet for us for sites to look for and places to visit between Taupo & Rotorua which we found very useful. Many thanks to both Lynn & Stephen ~ you were both a delight and helped make our holiday even more memorable. We would both strongly recommend a visit.
