“Excellent location!”
Reviewed 31 December 2011

Great little YHA hostel, very friendly staff, location very good about 2mins away from the bus station. Building a little old (no central heating) and window in my room did not close properly i only discovered this when i was about to go to bed, too late to contact reception but it was only somewhere to sleep for one night so was ok

Truly great service, clean, spacious, good amenities. Just a bit noisy, our room v.close to main road.

Was here for a night in May 2011. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. My room was a 5 bed dorm with 2 bunk beds and a single bed. Room was adequately large though it only had 2 power outlets. There are plenty of clean showers & toilets and towels are provided, which is much appreciated. The common areas are spacious and comfortable.

Its location within Nelson Central is pretty good and you have some grocery shops and convenience stores nearby. The hostel even has a small indoor sauna if you're feeling a little chilly.

We apparently arrived in Nelson on a really crowded weekend, so this place was our only option. We only stayed one night, but the double room was SO overpriced for what you got. The room was really tiny and overlooked a loud street and the patio where everyone drinks and hangs out.

There was a loudspeaker down every hallway outside of every room that the staff would use to try and find certain people staying at the hostel. They woke us up a few times using this intercom system. Annoying.

However, the bathrooms were clean, the sheets and beds were clean, and the staff was friendly.

We loved this hostel. It is in a great location with all the services you could want within walking distance. We had an ensuite bath that was very large. There was even a second sink in the room. The beds were okay but not the most comfortable. We had our garbages emptied and clean towels left every day. There was a tea kettle and tea which was so nice. Staff were not the friendliest and we found that they always seemed a bit rushed and easily irritated. Bus pick up was right outside the door. Be aware that the staff leave at 8:30pm so no late arrivals. There is a code to get in if you are already registered.

I've stayed here twice with the same friend and we returned to it because it offered clean rooms for a budget price - pretty sure I only paid $28 per night. Good backpacker accommodation. It certainly isn't plush but if you've been in the wilderness for a week it seems great!

We stayed here for one night during easter, and due to the fact that the hostel was fully booked, reception and kitchen were quite busy. Parking was free, due to the public holiday (don't know if there's a free parking option during normal days). Location is good for the nice city center, waterfront is a 15 minute walk.
Our private ensuite was very convenient with lots of space, a large bathroom, a couch, a sink with some cups, plates etc. and coffee and tea making facilities, a large bed and television+dvd player. A small fridge would have made it completely perfect.

Unfortunately, a 'public' bathroom was located just next to our room, and walls are quite thin so we could hear everything. Another small disadvantage was that the windows in the room were located very high, so there's no opportunity to have a look outside and the room feels a little bit like a bunker.
The hostel is pretty big, so it can feel a little unpersonal, but that didn't botter us.

Receptionstaff was very helpful to make a booking for the watertaxi in Abel Tasman National Park.

For diner, try the Indian restaurant in the 'villa', it was the most delicous Indian food we ever had.
