We stayed in the Crows Nest and our friends stayed in the Main Deck for two nights and only wish we could have stayed longer. The views over Nelson are amazing. The personnel touches and the very high standards that Ralph, Sally and Kim maintain with the property make staying in these magnificent apartments just heaven. This really is an exceptional property at very reasonable rates.

The view from the Wheelhouse Inn cabin is absolutely spectacular. We only stayed one night unfortunately, but didn't leave early for Abel Tasman as planned just becuase we wanted to enjoy the view a while longer. Ralph provided some fantastic tips for our upcoming days activities which we enjoyed as well. Also enjoyed all of the cabin's amentities (laundry, music, DVD, coffee). Great job making this one of the highlights of our NZ vacation!

We booked Wheelhouse and Charter House Upper Deck for the New Year period, for our party of 8 including 2 children. It wasn't easy to book Wheelhouse Inn for the most sought after period - we had to do this back in March, after I failed to book for the same period 3 years ago even when I inquired in May. So there was certainly high expectation that this would be an awesome stay. Expectation was fully met - the four adults shared Charter House Upper Deck and loved the place. It was spacious, all on one level, and for 2 meals that all 8 of us had there, it was still not crowded. Both houses have everything you would need for a short stay. There were also nice extra touches such as some cookies and chocolate treats.

Wheelhouse is on 3 levels, so while we think it is funky and cool for a couple, with young children it was a little tricky. The stairs are steep. The living room is more suitable for a couple, probably with one child.

Both houses have lovely, probably the best views in Nelson. We loved the location being so close to the beach yet super private and quiet. While it is in fly path, we didn't find airplane noise too much - in fact it provided some entertainment for the kids. The driveway was slightly tricky, but we got used to it.

We stayed here for 6 days, and unfortunately weather hadn't been the best with only 2 days fine and the rest wet. We were so glad that we stayed at Wheelhouse Inn as we at least had a lovely view and nice surroundings when we couldn't go out. The free wifi worked well and was much appreciated.

All in all we enjoyed this lovely place. We've been to Nelson 3 times now and stayed at quite a few places, including the Century Park Motel which was also very good. However I would pick this place for a return visit in a heart beat - if we could book it that is!

Room Tip: If you are staying with young children, it's best to avoid Wheelhouse Inn and go for Charter Hou...

We stayed 2 nights in the Captain's Quarters and it was amazing! The view was breathtaking. It's really like on the pictures, or maybe even better. All the rooms were very spacious and clean, the bed was comfortable, the kitchen and the accessories were complete, it was awesome. I liked that nautical theme in the decoration (the owners are nuts about boats!). Speaking about the owners, we were met by Ralph who made us feel very welcomed and gave us great advice on which street to take so we don't get stuck at trying to cross a very busy street!

Highly recommended!!

Set on the side of quite a steep hill with wonderful views over Nelson Harbour to the Abel Tasman National Park in the distance across the bay. A spacious very well equipped apartment with a separate bedroom designed so that whenever you are not in the bathroom you can enjoy the wonderful views. Very friendly helpful service. I would certainly stay here again and would thoroughly recommend unless you have mobility difficulties. As cities go Nelson is very pleasant.

Incredible view, very clean and comfortable...feels like our home away from home. We have stayed numerous times (in the Crows Nest) - wouldn't think of staying anywhere else when in the Nelson area. Great place to rest, relax and watch the world go by. A little piece of heaven.

Excellent place to hang out. Interesting friendly owners. Very clean and comfortable, awesome views. Great place to stay, I can't imagine staying anywhere else when we visit Nelson. Lying in bed watching the boats is a wonderful way to wake up.
