“Comfortable pub for good beer and food.”
Reviewed 22 April 2013

The FreeHouse is a small pub that is family friendly (board games for kids) and features a nice number of beers. You can order pizza, thai, and pub food from the bartender who then orders it from neighboring restaurants. We had pizza and it was a good thin crust pizza. We went here three times over two weeks and it had a good crowd each time.

“best pub in NZ”
Reviewed 17 April 2013

My wife and I are just back from a tour of NZ and being a beer drinker I wanted to sample a few Kiwi beers whilst we were there. We stumbled on this place in Nelson(the pub is in a converted church) and as they had some live music on(there's a Mongolian Yurt in the beer garden which is used for live music) we decided to spend the evening there, although I'd done an earlier recce mission that afternoon to test the beers out.As Nelson is NZ's main hop growing area I figured the local beers might be good and I wasn't disappointed. They had 3 cask ales on,all from a local brewer and they were spot on.As a CAMRA member this made a pleasant change from some of the other routine Kiwi beers, drinkable though they are.All in all,a pleasant evening and a wonderful pub, though we didn't eat there.Be sure to pop in if you're in Nelson

“Great pub maybe little over priced”
Reviewed 13 March 2013

This is a free house with 13 beers and lagers on tap, so you can experiment until you find the right one.Bar staff very helpful giving you a taste before you buy
Food is decent, and there is a programme of live music .
My only man is the prices are a little on the high side, but try it once sure your enjoy it and be back as we were.
