We love the coffee and ambience at Prego and were really looking forward, to the degustation menu at Comida - and it was great! Well done Mac, Claudia and your team it was a terrific evening. Nelson has lots of good coffee places and after living here for two years we have tried them all - but for a long time now we can be seen most days sitting on a comfortable black leather couch at Prego,, reading the paper (no we don't stay all day!) and drinking great coffee. The Chai Latte is pretty good too if you're not a coffee fan. The staff? consistently excellent service.

“Always Delights”
Reviewed 12 July 2014 via mobile

We are locals and we eat here most weeks. We love the food and the coffee but most of all the atmosphere which is always very welcoming. In addition to this, once we've eaten we can buy from a selection of European food products to fill our pantry for the next week.

They also stock locally pressed olive oils.

Tonight we have just enjoyed a degustation dinner...great company and sensational food with wine matches with each course

Comida are adding to their hours to include dinner service and some of these dishes we enjoyed tonight will no doubt feature.

We highly recommend this place...the parking is easy, they have an efficient and talented kitchen and the food and service quality is consistent each week.

“Brilliant”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

Attended winter evening dinner last night and had a brilliant time. Seven courses of stunning food, beautifully matched wines and port and a dessert to die for. RIght from the welcome to the end of the evening the service, presentation and food was outstanding. Great company, great setting and great food. Will be going again and again

“A magnificent dining experience”
Reviewed 5 July 2014 via mobile

This already outstanding cafe is planning to start dinner service in August 2014. As part of the buildup to this we attended on eof 3 degustation dinners held recently. Seven formal courses (plus amuse bouche and an interlude of sorbet) all with matching wines or liqueurs. All of the food was stunning from beef carpaccio through chicken and porcini cannelloni, pork belly, saddle of lamb, and panna cotta to the finish of real unpasteurised French brie and Roquefort.Wines from Nelson, Italy, France, Spain and Portugal complimented and completed each experience.
For me the highlight was the combination of flavours in a dish comprising saffron gravlax, smoked mascarpone, lumpfish roe, mandarin powder, and verjuice jelly. Each one a strong individual flavour but combined to give a real mouthful of surprises. Matched with a Waimea Estate Gruner Veltliner it was a wonderful dish.
The chef for this meal is the same one who will be cooking for the new dinner service and if this meal is anything to go by then the new menu will be well worth sampling.

“Vegetables so fresh and so rare”
Reviewed 21 December 2013 via mobile

My travels through NZ have left me desperate for salad and other veggies. How delightful to discover this eatery attached to an Italian/Spanish deli/grocery. Seven varieties of olives, for heaven's sake! Made our way through the aisles of incredible foodstuffs to the cafe where we ordered Waldorf salad, pasta carbonara, spanakopita and great coffee. Best food in Nelson in our book because it was FRESH and vegetables were involved! Hope this place continues to thrive.
