“Warm, welcoming and restful”
Reviewed 2 weeks ago for a stay in June 2018

On arrival at the end of a days travel and quick nightfall we were so greatful to walk into Coppergate with the curtains drawn and a roaring fire. We loved that it felt like a real home with the attention to detail, artwork, magazines and collectables. It was remarkably restful to wake to a quiet vista of trees and paddock with friendly sheep. Our only complaint is that we couldn't stay longer, we want to return...soon

Thanks for your great review. It was lovely to meet you and see you enjoy the tame sheep and property. Thanks too for your comments about Copper Gate itself - being one of NZ's most eco of eco homes means it is very comfortable. Cheers.

“A perfect pleasure”
Reviewed 25 January 2017 for a stay in January 2017

What a wonderful slice of paradise we found in Copper Gate. Beautifully designed Bach in the most perfect surroundings. Stunning & peaceful views - so much so, we ate on the deck almost every evening! The kids loved exploring the property, feeding the sheep and chickens and making home-made lemonade. The hosts were brilliant to deal with from start to finish - so happy they decided to share their amazing home!
We'd love to be back there now and will definitely visit again, although it will be hard to decide next time as we got to have a peak at the new Glamping site, Kissing Gate, and it looks awesome!

Thanks for your amazing review. Glad your enjoyed the chickens, sheep - and our hospitality. Just to clarify: Copper Gate is a boutique holiday home which only guests occupy. We live elsewhere on the 7 acre property. And yes, Kissing Gate luxury glamping (rated in top 14 in the world by TripAdvisor) would be an excellent choice for next time :-)

“A perfect weekend getaway for our family”
Reviewed 8 September 2016 for a stay in August 2016

We loved this home! The owners were lovely, and our young kids loved exploring the property - particularly the chickens and sheep which are really tame. The house is perfect - modern and clean with everything you could need. A really relaxing weekend and we will stay again if holidaying in Mapua.

Thanks! We sometimes have to remind ourselves what a paradise it is to live in the Mapua seaside village area - which explains why we wanted to set up holiday accommodation like Copper Gate, Corru Gate and Kissing Gate so that families could explore or simply relax. It was great to hear that you had got out and about on the Great Taste Trail and down to the Wharf.

“Stunning home and location - Peace in Paradise.”
Reviewed 28 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

Copper Gate is a beautiful and well appointed house. The view was stunning, especially with all the autumn colours. The kids loved feeding the chooks and the sheep and eating the eggs for breakfast!. The first night we dined at Jellyfish Cafe and Restaurant at Mapua. The meals were lovely. The next day from our base at Copper Gate, we biked to Mapua, took the ferry across and biked round Rabbit Island for the day. It was an easy adventure for the 4 boys, aged 9 - 12 years. They loved the bike track in the middle of the island. Back 'Home', we cooked dinner in the beautiful kitchen. The huge deck out the front is great for indoor/ outdoor living. The beds were super comfy.

If the New Zealand Tourist Board were to produce a booklet of instructions for 'wannabe' holiday property letters they should include a number of Roger and Adele's methods as best practice.
We stayed at Coppergate in Feb. 2016.My wife and I were visiting from the UK and we were joined by our son and daughter in law and our two young grandchildren from Auckland.
During the booking process the owners website had even included a video of the property being built.
On our arrival we were greeted by a personalised letter welcoming us to the property and area.
Coppergate is a lovely property in a beautiful quiet setting some 3 kilometres from the pretty coastal village of Mapua. There one can find pleasant restaurants bars and coffee shops, the village also has a well stocked 4 Square.
The property is well presented and furnished with superb views from an expansive deck.Available ,if needed, but never intrusive Roger and Adele live nearby.
We arrived at just the right time for the adjacent orange, lemon, grapefruit and apple trees to be fruiting and we were encouraged to take all we needed. Nine sheep roam in the field alongside Coppergate and they love apples. 3 year old grandson Ben loved feeding them.
Chickens wander about one even coming in if invited.
Well equipped with clear instructions on use of white goods etc. An impressive kitchen augmented by rear deck with barbecue we lacked for nothing.
Shortly after our stay we received an e-mail thanking us for staying with them.
We can highly recommend a stay here.
