Couldn't fault this place - the apartment was very comfortable, well equipped with everything you need - the deck was awesome with views to die for - just one thing lacking, a barbque would have made it perfect. Sure the driveway was steep but once you got there, why would you want to go out and leave that all behind!

Save yourselves the trouble and book into this place.
It had spectacular views with a beautiful view of the bay and sunsets.
We spent 2 nights and for both of them had a lovely dinner while waiting for the sun to set, simply amazing. The kitchen facilities we excellent as was the sprawling living area.

Our stay at the apartment was indeed memorable. Such an amazing view, something to look at even when you just want to sit quietly and be totally in your own private and quiet space. The location is great, close to quality cafes and restaurants and an easy drive to Nelson and other shoping locations. The apartment was well appointed, clean and very inviting, it truly felt like a home away from home but with that extra factor that one looks for. The hosts really cater thoughtfully for their guests. Thanks so much.

This (Apartment #1) is a luxury apartment that needs a make-over plus attention to detail. The bathroom light and noisy extractor fan are linked so a night-time trip to the bathroom disturbs others. The bathroom needs more shelves and cupboards and the wall mirror fixing is broken. The bedroom is dark anyway due to the over-hanging deck of Apartment #2 above but overgrown plants outside the window at eye level obscure the view and add to the gloom. The bedroom needs a mirror. The overall decoration is tired e.g. the steps up to the bathroom are scuffed. This is definitely not a place for the disabled or even the unfit as there are no hand rails on the steps from the lounge/diner/kitchen to the bathroom or on the steps to the bedroom and the approach from the quayside is alarmingly steep - even in a car. Driving up or down is a startling experience! On the plus side, the lounge /diner/kitchen is beautifully equipped and furnished, the balcony is superb and is the perfect spot to gaze at the view and watch memorable sunsets.

Many thanks to PeterPlumtree for their feedback. It's good to have things pointed out to us which we haven't noticed or imagined.

Certainly it never occurred to us the internal steps up from the lounge to the laundry/bath (& the similar set to the bedroom) could use handrails but we certainly see PP's point. The owners of the property will be considering options when they're next here. Meanwhile I've posted a picture (Apartment 1 lounge) which shows those stairs: potential visitors who are a bit unsteady, please have a look before you book.

PP's comments resulted in an extra spring-clean & some serious gardening work & we believe the apartments to be in a very tidy state. Extra shelves & a new mirror have been installed in the bathroom. We don't know how PP didn't see the 3/4 length mirror in the bedroom.

Linking the bathroom extractor fan with the lights is the only practical way to ensure the fan is used. It turns off about 4 minutes after the lights are extinguished. It is located on the far side of the living area from the bedroom door - approx 5m away. There are windows between the living area & the bathroom (sounds kinky but they're very nice - & have shutters) so lights in the lounge would easily provide enough light in the bathroom for nocturnal visits ie you don't have to turn on the bathroom lights.

The driveway is quite steep & will likely provide a bit of a thrill the 1st couple of times - but nobody's ever said it's not worth it. It is just a driveway, you get used to it quickly. There's good parking & turning @ the top.

PP's evocative profile shot (wine & tapas) was clearly taken from the apartment veranda. I'm sure by now they only remember the highlights of their stay at Harbour View.

Excellent instructions on location and entry. The view from living room window - SIMPLY STUNNING.Steep driveway would deter anyone who was an apprehensive driver.Apartment was modern, clean, homely and comfortable.Nicely stocked kitchen with the basics. Lack of a beach lounge or daybed to enjoy the sun on the terrace was only negative.

Breathtaking harbour, island, bay & mountain views ensure either of the 2 apartments are ideal places from which to enjoy the magical view: from the maritime traffic in the harbour to the grand vista of Tasman Bay & the western mountain ranges. A 1 bedroom apartment is on the lower level. It has beautiful wood floors & a large living area with big sliding windows & doors. There's a compact kitchen, tiled bathroom & laundry appliances. The 2 bedroom is above. It also has a large open living area & big windows & sliding doors. There's a full kitchen & separate laundry. The higher elevation give it earlier sun & a slightly more expansive view. The property is on the hillside (away from the busy waterfront highway). Nelson's renown waterfront dining strip is very nearby, at the bottom of the hill (2 mins walk down). The township is a 4 min drive. Abel Tasman National Park is easily doable as a day trip. There is a steep driveway with good parking & turning room at the top. There are approximately 16 steps up to Apartment 1 & another 16 to Apartment 2. These are normal spaced steps with good handrails. The property is managed by James and Richard of Te Puna Wai Lodge, Nelson. We manage a range of vacation properties in the area. ... more   less
