“Even The Daleks are Great”
Reviewed 16 February 2014

We stayed for just a couple of nights here recently and can only say this is a fantastic place to stop. Woodi and Johnny are tremendous hosts and a lot of fun. Our room was excellent with a balcony and stunning view over to Haulashore Island. The breakfasts were exceptional quality, thanks Woodi. The evening drinks, nibbles and conversation were so delightful and relaxing. An absolute must if you're staying in Nelson. Thanks again to both of you for a fantastic time. I still want the pewter Dalek salt and pepper cellars though :))

Our stay at Wakefield Quay House has proven to be the highlight of our lengthy holiday trip in New Zealand. The house itself is charming. It boasts marvelous character, comfortable rooms, and creative artifacts. The views are stunning. The best feature of the home is the opportunity to spend time with Woodi and Johnny. Full and delicious breakfasts, cocktails on the porch, and charming conversation. Woodi is exceedingly knowledgeable about the restaurants, and wineries in the area. She is connected with the local community and every recommendation for places to go and things to see proved "spot on". Johnny is a lifelong Nelson resident, and a wealth of information about local sailing events and local waters. We had a delightful time!

Arrived on a recommendation from friends, and certainly lived up to expectations .Helpfull and great fun from the start. Woodi's eye for detail and flair is evident everywhere in this lovely house, with a perfect view of the harbour Evening drinks and nibbles are served at 6.oo pm, a perfect way to relax and chat to Johnny and Woodi who are wonderfull and colourfull hosts .We were then steered to a fabulous restaurant almost opposite to round off a perfect day.So relaxing I left my prized Tilly hat there, which was duly sent on by Johnny... thankyou ! Comfortable and practical rooms with everything you could wish for. A dream breakfast of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs , with fresh fruit and juices, locally sourced. Wished we had stayed longer.

We felt warmly welcomed and at home during our four nights in this comfortable house. We loved to watch the comings and goings on the water and evening wine and nibbles and chat with Woodi and Johnny were a highlight of the day. We also appreciated the attention to detail, fantastic breakfasts and two excellent restaurants nearby. We would thoroughly recommend Wakefield Quay House.

Wakefield Quay House has the best views in Nelson overlooking Haulashore Island in the Tasman Bay. Host, Woodi and Johnny Moore are open-hearted, great fun and a tremendous resource of all things local. It felt like we were on the set of Ab Fab with lots of bubbles consumed on the deck at the obligatory 6pm drinks and nibbles. All in all a fantastic experience. We will definitely return.

Wakefield House is a beautiful, elegant property overlooking the water at Nelson with stunning views across the Bay. It would be easy to watch the yachts and other marine traffic all day... The property boasts a large deck where Woodi hosts wine and nibbles at 6pm each day. She is an extremely generous host and great fun - conversation and wine flowed freely and we availed ourselves of her amazing homemade pate. We didn't get to meet Johnny as he was away sailing for the three days that we were there but Woodi was great. She is also extremely well connected in the local area and we had the best table in both the Harbour Lights Bistro and The Boatshed which was brilliant.
We had the Crows Nest room which is brilliant as it has it's own balcony and, of course, great views - even from the loo! It also has a pair of a German U Boat binoculars for you to observe goings on in the Bay. In fact there are lots of interesting articles, photos and art throughout the house.
Breakfast was lovely - fruit and yoghurt and then smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. If you are picturing Delia Smith though then don't, she might be a domestic goddess but Woodi is also the ultimate rock chick and the sort of person you want to meet regularly for a glass of wine or two. And she has some interesting friends too - you might meet'Pirate Pearl' who lives on a catamaran in theBay and sells fabulous, quirky nautical inspired bags and cushion covers at
Nelson's wonderfulSaturday market.
Parking is easy - on the road that runs straight in front of the house ( you walk up steps to the house).

We came to Wakefield Quay House after two days backcountry tramping and we could not have wished for better return to civilisation. Drinking wine and eating cheese on the verandah as the sun set behind the mountains was one of the most pleasant experiences that I have had in New Zealand. On top of that, there are comfortable rooms, warm showers and a delicious breakfast. Woodi and Johnny are very welcoming hosts; it felt more like we were staying with friends than in a B&B.
