“Peaceful B&B”

Arriving for my first time in Nelson was a really lovely surprise, it's such a lovely town. I was lucky enough to get an upgrade to a large studio room with gorgeous garden and surrounding views. The room was downstairs and had it's own private sitting area outside which was a really relaxing place to just sit and take it all in. Paulina made delicious breakfasts with yummy fresh ingredients. Joya is in a great location about a five minute walk from the main part of town and in a really stunning part of Nelson.

Upon receiving a last-minute recommendation from a friend who insisted we should take a detour up to Nelson, we canceled our hotel in Picton and booked a stay at Joya. From the moment we arrived at the Garden Studio room with our daughter, we were in instant peace. The room was spacious, the surroundings peaceful, and the service was spot-on. Our hostess Paulina prepared a delicious breakfast and was very loving to us and our three-year-old daughter. We stayed in many places during our two weeks in New Zealand (most of them more expensive), but this was by far the best experience; I only wish we had been able to stay longer. We will definitely take a detour to Nelson to stay at Joya house the next time we visit.

Room Tip: The garden suite has a goldfish pond in front of it, which should be considered for families with sm...

Two lovely studios in a gorgeous. relaxing ZEN paradise. I stayed in the villa studio, very private and with original touches and great colour schemes. The host, Paulina is very accommodating. If you are looking for a peaceful retreat, yet close to the restaurants and cafes, look no further. I myself, will be back for sure.

Paulina is a wonderful hostess, she welcomed us into her house and provided plenty of ideas of things to do, and where to eat in Nelson. We had the double villa room, which is in the main house, and shares a bathroom with the single room. Room was spacious and had an amazingly comfortable bed- one of the best I've ever stayed in! Breakfast was fantastic, and served at a time to suit you, which is a welcome change. Car parking is in a small area at the rear of the property. We had some laundry done, which did incur a small charge, but all our t shirts were folded, and socks paired off!

After 32 hours of international travel this was the perfect spot to rest up before joining family. The beautiful garden studio was restful, cosy and relaxing, we were soothed by the sounds of the small creek running into he pond which is filled with huge goldfish to the kids delight. A short walk to town but the quiet spot to retreat to makes this a wonderful place to stay. Paulina was welcoming and warm and put on a great healthy kiwi breakfast, we will definitely be back!

Room Tip: If you want privacy and to feel like you are at your own place the garden studio is awesome.

I booked the "den" (single bed) room upstairs in the main house for two nights. Very cozy -- comfortable bed, quiet at night, TV and free wifi. Breakfast downstairs from 0630 on -- just let the owner, Pauline, know when you want it. She will pick you up and drop you off at the bus depot -- let her know what time your bus arrives. Laundry service is available for a fee.

We have just returned from our 4th stay at Joya. We have stayed in the Studio Apartment on each visit. The apartment has a tasteful, austere opulence. Paulina is generous, welcoming and unobtrusive. The facilities are practical and well maintained. We first visited as a couple. 5 years later we have found our toddler readily settled in his 'cave' made from banboo screen in the evenings though it is a single room.
It is delightful to linger in the well maintained gardens and enjoy the serene atmosphere. Venturing out, access to the city via Willow Walk that follows a stream into the city is not only practical but a pleasure. We happily return to Joya for the refreshing, nurturing environment.
