“Must Do in Nelson”
Reviewed 10 March 2013

The Boat Shed is set on a pier overlooking the ocean. One of your MUST DO restaurants is The Boat Shed. Fish is fresh and expertly prepared. Other options are available. I had the mussels and cockles which were wonderful. Great wine. The scenery is superb watching the kayakers, boaters, ducks and other sea life off the deck. We didn't have dessert but had an amazing cappuccino. Suggest making a reservation to sit outside.

“Nice dinner”
Reviewed 7 March 2013 via mobile

There are lots of nice things to eat here, all drawn from the local area seemingly. The beef carpaccio was very nice, accompanied by perfectly fried artichokes. Lamb was of a high quality too. The fish specials were simply cooked but very well done. The deserts were similarly good.

“Fabulous setting”
Reviewed 4 March 2013

The Boatshed is set on a pier overlooking the ocean. The food was amazing, with great wine to match. I had fish, my husband had Lamb and it was excellent.

“Trust the Chef”
Reviewed 4 March 2013

We arrived at this stunning restaurant which fabulous views looking out over Nelson Bay - 9 strong for a birthday celebration and were looked after like royalty - very helpful staff and very good menu - what ever your tastes. We decided to "trust the chef" - which means you spend the evening eating small sections from the whole menu - great for every and and such a lot of fun - extra portions were provided of items we liked at no extra charge - the whole evening went so well - we will be going back - there may be a couple items on the menu we missed out on !!!

“Will not go back and do not recommend”
Reviewed 3 March 2013 via mobile

Although we booked a reservation almost a week ahead when we arrived we were seated in a tiny room at the side of the building. The main dining room had empty tables. In this tiny room were four tables, one for a group of six, one for a group of four and two tables for two unfortunate couples who were looking for a pleasant night out. The noise from the two larger groups was so loud conversation for us was impossible and we watched the other couple eat and leave quickly. I am trying to think of another word than snobby regarding the servers and unfortunately cannot. They really push the "trust the chef" option and when we declined that, we became an inconvenience apparently. We were rushed to place an order, not that we were served that quickly. At the time of paying the check the credit card was run, the receipt brought back to us and the server put it down and demanded my husband sign it immediately---- and since she was in such a hurry he just signed it as she ordered and "didn't have time" to enter a tip. The only positive comment to be made is that the food was actually quite good, but not enough to make up for their other deficiencies.
