“Better than last time- Hard to fault”
Reviewed 17 July 2013

I reviewed the Boat Shed in February of last year. At that time I noted the portions were small and the service disorganised. We went there again for my son's 18th birthday on a Friday night. The restaurant was about half full. It really was hard to fault.

The food was excellent and servings sufficient. With a starter, main and desert we were well satisfied. It is not that often a Bluff oyster is so big it has to be cut in half but 2 of the 6 we ordered that night were. Not exceptionally fresh but acceptable. These oysters need to be shipped in the shell and I suspect these were not.

Service was very professional and the atmosphere as good as ever. Very enjoyable. The Dog Point Pinot superb.

“Lives up to expectations”
Reviewed 3 July 2013 via mobile

Wonderful atmosphere and setting right on the seafront; you can even hear the waves lashing in at high tide! Fantastic meal of Bluff oysters (scrummy), goats cheese and beetroot salad, finished off with treacle sponge and custard. Extremely warm welcome and excellent service. Treat yourself to dining in one of Nelson's best restaurants.

“Sea view and over the sea. WOW!”
Reviewed 1 July 2013

WoW! Just look at the restaurant as you approach it. Sitting above the sea and what a view. Even in Winter it has a warm ambience in the outer deck area which is fully enclosed. The fine food adds to the GR8 feeling you have for the scenic Nelson backdrop. Well done!

“Perfect brunch”
Reviewed 29 June 2013

I had brunch on cold clear Saturday in late June with my wife. Despite the cold weather outside (5 degrees C?) we sat right next to the water, with a lovely sea view on verandah over the water and we were toasty warm! The whole restaurant was light and bright with some quiet background music, and each table had different lovely flowers. We both had poached eggs, grilled sour dough, chutney and salmon. The salmon was a not your normal thin slice of smoked salmon, but rather a decent perfectly cooked slice of fresh salmon. We had freshly made hollandaise sauce on the side. A perfect breakfast - delicious. If you happen to want brunch then this must be one of the best menus, and places I have ever been to.

“Beautiful food”
Reviewed 18 June 2013

Food was absolutely fantastic. Main meal was perfectly cooked and difficult to beat!
Beautiful setting and the noise of the sea was great.
Side dishes were pricey for what you got. Wine was way over priced. Had to pay 3 times a bottle for what I usually buy the identical wine in the supermarket.
Would go back for main course alone!
