“Great location, spoilt for choice in Nelson”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 June 2014

We are truly blessed with great restaurants in Nelson but for lunch with great location, superb service and good food at sensible prices its difficult to beat the Boat Shed. Sat on the terrace on a perfect winters? day with the sun shining, clear blue sky and tide in, what could be better? Only minor thoughts are that the sautéed potatoes could be cooked a little longer and just a touch more alcohol in the Tiramisu, being picky!!

“Taste Sensations”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 May 2014 via mobile

We were greeted with a smile and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. We started with a shared sourdough bread, oil and two types of olives. These were great. My wife ordered the twice cooked pork belly and I ordered the duck breast with grilled stone fruit. Whilst I enjoyed the tastes of pork belly, the flavours in the duck breast and accompanying stone fruit and endives were superb. The choice of wines was varied with local vineyards supported however don't expect lower quality wines.

“wonderful birthday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2014

My husband planned a surprise birthday lunch in the little 'back' room here that seats about 12. The service was very good, the food was fabulous as we all know how hard it is to feed a group, but they did an excellent job. The 'trust the chef' has to be one of the nicest lunch/dinner items in Nelson, you never know what you are going to get but it is always great, thanks

“Interesting food and great service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2014

As it so often can, the attentive but not overbearing service from the European wait staff lifted our experience. The menu was varied and interesting, but I found it more difficult to select from than expected - not from the sheer abundance of great offerings, although there are many, but more from the sometimes uncommon food combinations. The salmon carpaccio and the fried haloumi were both excellent little tasters. The lamb rump was good, a little light on the accompanying vegetables so I'd recommend a side (we had the cheesy baked potatoes) if you have an appetite, and we shared dessert which was a sticky treacle pudding with butterscotch sauce. The wine was steeply priced, expect to pay a minimum of around $13 a glass, but all of our choices (which we discussed with our waiter) went well with our food and were very nice drops.

“Good but not over impressed with the menu”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 May 2014

In Tasman visiting friends and had eaten here 4 years ago and 'Trusted the Chef' and enjoyed it so we returned. Although we enjoyed everything we had we were a bit disappointed that so many of the dishes had cheese in them, 5 out of 7 of the first items on the menu, as did the only potato side which we ordered without the tallegio topping but we're told there was Parmesan in the cream sauce. We went with the a la carte and the beef was tender and delicious, as was the duck. Also enjoyed the tiramisu. Maybe cheese is popular in winter? Staff were attentive and friendly. Recommend a visit, particularly if you like cheese!
