Description: Bacco is the Roman God of Wine, Bacco Restaurant and Wine Bar changed its ownership and name from Café Affair in October 2016. We are a premium wine bar/restaurant with an Italian/European spin to our dishes. We are all about fresh, local ingredients where possible and we have a food matching our premium wines philosophy. Bacco has a wine club and holds Degustation dinners bi-monthly.

A positive experience, from the welcoming staff to the unusual and fun cook-it-yourself format. With no desire for leftovers, we were pleased with the perfectly satisfying "light" menu (picking the seafood and mini steak options). The outdoor dining was very pleasant.

Just popped in for a snack, had the most amazing beer battered chips with cheese, bacon and sour cream between us. Absolutely lovely. Also tried one of cask beers which was local; the one we wanted had only just been put on and wasn't ready. Went back two days later and had it to accompany another portion of the beer battered chips. We were not disappointed. We returned later the next week with an elderly friend with limited mobility and had the most wonderful meals, stone grilled steaks and stone grilled prawns and scallops. We had chosen to take her out to this restaurant on the basis that it provided good access and parking for someone with limited mobility. On all three visits the staff were very helpful and the ambience in the restaurant was very good. Very well suited to take someone with limited mobility the staff were very considerate of our friend's situation and were accommodating without making an issue out of it. Would certainly recommend it as a great place to eat. The only downside was the music in the early evening wasn't to our taste, either for us as a couple or our elderly friend. That is just personal choice though and doesn't really detract from the excellent food and service, that aside I still give this venue my best revue.

We visited this place once on our stay in Nelson, great location loads of seating options and very lovely to sit outside in the sun!
The coffee was good - espresso and water on the side for both and the daily savory scone was sensational :-)
Very friendly staff
Papers etc, easy location to sit back and chill

I rarely write a restaurant review, but our meal was such bad value (and I've had a week to cool down) that I'm doing a review. Perhaps it will serve as a caveat emptor. This restaurant specialises in stonegrill cooking, which means you grill the food on a hot stone. And pay the same price you would for chef-cooked/seasoned food. The prawns and scallops we ordered were mostly prawns, although the menu did not make that clear. Perhaps it was a good thing, as the scallops were rubbery after sitting on a hot stone that wasn't hot enough. Both were flavourless -- and the sauce served in a little bowl with them was without complexity. It was also so thin that it didn't adhere to the food.
