“Home away from home”
Reviewed 30 November 2013

Robyn and Kees make their Bed and Breakfast a relaxing home away from home. They go above and beyond for their guests, whom they treat as friends and can't do enough for to make the stay enjoyable. The home itself is delightful and comfortable, the rooms are charmingly decorated, the garden is beautiful, and Kees puts on a delicious breakfast. It's conveniently only 5 minutes drive from the Nelson airport, and Kees will pick you up or drop you off if required.

Thank you for the wonderful review! Always lovely to hear our guests feel they are part of the family - hopefully that means they feel special and welcome which is our intention! Never too much trouble to ensure our guests get where they need to go and if they are without a vehicle, then we are here to help. Also there is a wonderful bus service that stops right outside our door, to and from the city centre.

We are new to the B & B lifestyle but with the type of accommodation that we got from Robyn and Kees, we are hooked. The home is wonderful and Robyn and Kees could not have been more hospitable than they were. Kees is a fantastic cook and the breakfasts were fabulous. We got lots of tips about activities. If you go to Nelson, this is the B & B for you.

Room Tip: Take the room by the kitchen - then you can smell the breakfast being cooked.

Thank you for the great review! We are always delighted to be able to help our guests get the very best out of their stay with us. Our region is just so beautiful with lots to see and do here and at this time of the year there is always a festival or wine/garden fete to attend and now at our local beach the water is warm and people are swimming! And now the gorgeous floral hanging baskets adorn the central city streets giving it a festive and summery vibe...

My partner and I stayed two days. It was a relaxing, refreshing time, enjoying the excellent personalised hospitality of Robyn and Kees. Their knowledge of Nelson, its surrounds and New Zealand was helpful. Staying there revitalised us to continue on travelling. Their advice gave us ideas on where to go and what to do. The food and room was excellent.

We stayed for two nights at Ambleside B &B just last week and we couldn't fault the hosts Robyn and Kees. They made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived, especially with the home baking which was delicious along with a well awaited cup of tea. The room was spotless as was everywhere in the B&B and we could have our privacy in the room as well as sitting in the guest lounge. The breakfast was really good and we had a choice of food and nothing was too much trouble. They both helped us out with the best things to do and see while we were in Nelson and we wished we could have stayed a bit longer. Robyn and Kees are an absolutely delightful couple.
A big thank you to you both and you will be seeing us again.

We stayed 3 nights at Ambleside B & B in August and there was nothing we didn't like. We spent a lot of time deciding where to stay in Nelson, but this place stood out from the rest and we decided to give it a go. We soon understood why the reviews are so good. Robyn and Kees made us feel very welcome, in ways big and small, from the moment we arrived to the moment we had to leave. The Burgundy room we stayed in (they even upgraded us to a better room since the B&B was not fully booked) was very comfortable and nicely decorated, the attention to detail is amazing. The breakfast was indeed excellent and the Wi-Fi connection worked perfectly. We got useful advice on what to do in Nelson and for instance booking our trip to Abel Tasman National Park was very easy with the help we got from Robyn and Kees. But these are just examples. The hospitality and friendliness of the hosts is something exceptional. During our 3 weeks holiday in NZ, this was the best place we stayed in, hands down.

You won't find nicer hosts than Robyn and Kees, so if you stay in this area for Nelson or Abel Tasman, then I doubt you'll find better. The accommodation was lovely, and very well arranged, so that you have enough privacy, with separate access to your room, but you still feel that you are sharing their home, so a really nice balance. The food was wonderful, and Kees produces a lot of his own fruit, etc. Breakfast were great, and Robyn and Kees were more than happy to offer advice on tours etc. We also took advantage of Robyn's offer to launder some of our clothes for a very nominal charge, all nicely pressed and on our bed when we got back from a day out...first class !
Robyn and Kees are lovely caring people, and you run a lovely B&B, thanks for making it a lovely relaxing two nights with you.

Robyn and Kees are great hosts and did everything they could to make my 2 night stay as enjoyable as possible. Kees picked me up from the airport in the evening after my flights had been delayed and then cooked me supper as I'd not been able to get anything to eat for dinner. After a great cooked breakfast in the morning he then dropped me off for a tour with an early start so that I didn't have to rush. The B&B is very comfortable and lovingly looked after and it was a great place to start my holiday.

The Abel Tasman Sea Shuttle boat leaves from the wharf just down the road from us, and although they provide a great service by picking up the guests from our door, it is a little early for some, so it is our pleasure to be able to take our guests to the boat quite a bit later allowing a bit more time for a sleep-in and a good breakfast. All part of the service and nothing is too much trouble!
