“Great place to stay, wonderful hosts”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

My wife and I stayed here 3 night for our honeymoon and we couldn't have been happier with our choice. Our hosts were fantastic from our arrival to our departure. They helped us get settled, find things in the area, and set up a tour of a national park nearby. The house is very close to the airport and a close drive to all the things you would want to see in the area. The rooms were comfortable and the breakfasts were fantastic. I would recommend staying here to anyone!

Our honeymoon couples are always wonderful guests and these were no exception. Our grateful thanks to them for the wonderful review.
Always happy to be of assistance especially when it comes to helping guests with their local itinerary and making the most of their stay here. It is a beautiful region and here in Nelson where the sun always shines, it is a great place to stay summer or winter!

My wife and I visited Nelson as part of a driving honeymoon now just over a year ago. I am more than happy to see that Robyn and Kees are still entertaining visitors to Nelson and inviting them to stay with them at their beautiful home.

My wife and I recall our stay at Ambleside B&B with great fondness and wish that we had stayed longer. Robyn and Kees are indeed the most wonderful and friendly hosts that a traveler could ask for. Upon arrival we were invited refreshments and snacks and had a great chat with Kees and some of the other guests who were relaxing in the back yard's entertaining area.

The bed and breakfast itself is quiet (although just off a busy road) and very clean and comfortable. My wife and I (but of course) stayed in the honeymoon suite. The bed was comfortable and the room is nicely sized with an ensuite.

The location of the B&B is a short drive or a rather long walk from the beach. You would probably want to take a drive to get into town.

Our breakfast was delicious and was indeed something great to top off our stay before we drove off to our next location.

Robyn and Kees, thank you again for having us and we hope to visit you again some time. To those of you reading this review, please rest assured that your stay at Ambleside will be a memorable and comfortable experience.

This couple were so delightful! We thank you for such lovely and kind words..
It is a balancing act to give our guests as much space and privacy as they desire but at the same time trying to be friendly and helpful. The way our B&B provides this is having several outdoor areas where guests can relax away from others or join in the conversation around a cuppa in the guest lounge. It is up to them. We too have our own private area which allows guests to do their emails, catch up with loved ones at home or just chat to other travellers and so we endeavour to not intrude on what is essentially the way they wish to spend their holiday. It seems to work very well as in the case of this couple. However we are always here to provide helpful information and to attend to our guests every need as best we can.

Robyn and Kees made our stay memorable, wonderful friendly hosts for whom nothing was too much trouble.Breakfast was a choice of anything you wanted, eaten with other guests in the friendly kitchen. We only stayed 3 nights but would have loved to have stayed longer, the cream room was large and quiet and the bed was exceptionally comfortabe(best nighs sleep of the whole holiday) Robyn and Kees were knowledgable about the surrounding area and able to give lots of tips for exploring and visiting nearby attractions (3 days was not enough time). Nelson is a lovely town, it has a thriving local market on a Saturday with lots of home produce and crafts and the Abel Tasmen National park need time to be explored. The Boat Shed served local fish well presented. A wonderful experience made even more so by our lovely hosts who had given a lot of thought into what their gueats would like. Thank You Marjorie & George

Ohh people like this couple make doing B&B so special and very worth-while! We enjoyed their sense of humour and enjoyed the care so graciously given. Thank you!!
Always our privilege to be able to help our guests with their itinerary for their Nelson stay - there is so much to see and do here and not only the beautiful Abel Tasman Park.

Much enjoyed our brief stay made a bit more memorable as we arrived at the tailend of Cyclone Lusi, so very wet! We were well looked after and our hosts were most helpful. Comfortable bed and a good breakfast! John and Denise

We do so appreciate our lovely guests taking the time to write a review and especially from those who stay only one night, as it is then often difficult to showcase our beautiful region and all it has to offer. However it is nice to hear guests do still enjoy our hospitality which we endeavour to deliver to everyone no matter how long their stay.

One of the best B&Bs we've stayed in whilst travelling in New Zealand. Robyn & Kees seem to have thought of everything and are very helpful and pleasant.
The room was really good and breakfast was amazing.
Ambleside is a long walk or a short drive from a beautiful beach. It is further into town but not excessively far. They are just a short walk from the indispensible World of Wearable Art & Classic Cars Museum and there is a good pub and eatery (Speight's Ale House) next to that.
The road (Annesbrook Drive) is busy in rush hour but we had no problems with traffic noise.
We would strongly recommend Ambleside (and Nelson is well worth a couple of nights!)

Thank you for such kind words about our B&B, but oohh Nelson is so worth much more than just a couple of nights stay!
As stated we are just half an hours walk from our beautiful Tahunanui Beach, safe for swimming and with the lovely sculpture walk and the delightful Beach Café at the end it is a must do visit. The city itself is pretty, hanging baskets of flowers, sculpture and artworks abound, classy cafes and home to the Lord of the Rings One Ring maker - Jens Hansen as well as the walk up to the "real" centre of New Zealand; Founder's Park and our lovely gardens are all worthwhile places to visit. The famous World of WearableArt and Classic Car Exhibition Centre is only a few minutes walk from our house and 15 minutes drive away takes you into the wine country - galleries, cafes, the beautiful little seaside village of Mapua, and myriad world-class wineries. Less than an hours drive is the stunning Abel Tasman Park. How much time do you need to enjoy all Nelson has to offer? Some say a week doesn't cover it!!

The Ambleside is a great choice for a stay in Nelson. Robyn and Kees are wonderful hosts who are anxious to make your stay a pleasant one. They were very helpful with restaurant and sightseeing recommendations. The Cream Honeymoon Suite at the back of the house is very quiet and private. The bathroom is a bit small, but spotlessly clean. Breakfast on the outside patio was delightful, with a very generous continental breakfast and eggs if desired. It is located on a busy street, which can make exiting the drive a bit challenging, but there is off-street parking.

Thank you for the great review! As well as our service, our breakfasts are our main 'point of difference' here at Ambleside. We do offer a generous continental, but our cooked options are so much more than just "eggs"! We have crepes with seasonal berries; blueberry pancakes with mascarpone and maple syrup and lots of other delicious options available from our extensive breakfast menu.
Being on SH6 from a location point of view far outweighs any "exiting" problems, and people often comment about just how handy we are to everything, including the beach, the city and right outside our property access to one of the best cycle trails in the country.
There is no need to cross SH6 from our entrance, one simply needs to turn left, travel 50m up to the roundabout, drive all the way around and you are back on SH6 in the direction you wish to go!

Stayed here when we were going to do the Abel Tasman walk. We stayed for 2 nights and were able to leave our luggage whilst we did the walk for 3 days then returned for a night. I cannot speak highly enough about Ambleside. Every thing you would expect and more. Great thought has gone in to providing all you could possibly want. The breakfasts were superb- can highly recommend the crepes! A lovely place owned by lovely people.

Again we are so humbled by the kind words of our lovely guests... Thank you so much for the wonderful review.
We are often asked to look after luggage, which we do whilst our guests are in the Abel Tasman Park, and as always very pleased to be able to offer excellent kiwi service.
The crepes with fresh Nelson berries has been a favourite breakfast choice this season, add mascarpone cheese and maple syrup - yum!
