Wow what a wonderful place.
We were looking for something cheap and affordable, however a little bit off the beaten track.
We decided to take the Tipi Package, a one night deal sleeping in a real Indian Tipi imported from Central America. What a fantasic experience it was. Sleeping amongst the sounds of Wekas and Kiwis, under the watchful eye of the full moon.
Recommend 100%.

We had an exiting night in the tipi with stunning view over the bay. The next three nights we stayed in a bach for four. The bach was very clean, with fridge, electric kettle and dishes.
We really loved the attitude of the campground. Envirofriendly with native plants, recycling facilities and solar heated water.
There were lots of birds around and we loved the sound of the evening.
Don and Angela are the most friendly campground manager. They gave us really good tips for exploring the Bay of Islands.
The campground itself is in a really good shape. Even though not all facilities aren't new they are very well maintained and clean. The location between Russell and Okiato/Opua is perfect for daytrips with car, boot or on walking tracks.
We really enjoyed our holidays there.

We have stayed at Oronga Bay Holiday Park twice, this year they have made considerable improvements to the site and I would recommend it highly to couples and to families. We stayed in a self contained unit and found it well equipped, great shower, and comfortable bed. We particularly enjoyed the deck that overlooked the wet lands and the weta that visited us daily as well as the pukeko and fan tails. The pool is lovely and we enjoyed the walk along the wetlands just outside of the Park along the water front. Very conveniently located near Russell and still accesable to the ferry and the mainland. Helpful staff with lots of ideas for enjoying the area.

Room Tip: all price ranges available, your choice.

Very overpriced batch, run down facilities, out of town location. Bitten to death by mossies. I shall not be calling in there again. Although Russel is an interesting place to visit, this site is living on past glories.

We are sorry David that you did not enjoy your couple of days in our holiday park.

As you stayed with us during the mid February holiday season, our 2 roomed bach ( a NZ term for a holidaycabin) was $95 per night. The bach has a bedroom with a new and comfortable queen sized bed, all bedding, a quality 3 year old kitchen and a lounge/dining area and deck.

Unfortunately mosquitos are found near bush/forest in New Zealand which is why we provide mosquito wire over the windows. However they are in the main in evidence at dusk, so we suggest that where possible, you do not leave doors open and lights on at that time of day.

Yes, Russell - Orongo Bay Holiday Park is 2.5 kilometres from the middle of Russell village. However we are able to offer a tranquil and picturesque setting with abundant birdlife and a 5 minute drive/10 minutes cycle/40 minutes walk to the middle of the village.

We hope that you did overall enjoy your visit to New Zealand.

I originally planned to stay for 3 nights but extended my stay to 5 nights. The old cottage/cabin was great (although the bathroom area was very small and pokey but that goes with the age and history of the cottage) and the setting is beautiful and very relaxing. The park facilities are excellent - there is even a free book exchange. Don and Angela could not have been more helpful - advising on tours, sharing their extensive local knowledge, etc. The area around Russell is some of the most beautiful that I have ever seen and the town/village is charming and full of nice, helpful people. Highly recommend a visit to this part of New Zealand and to stay at the Orongo Bay Holiday Park.

My lady, myself & Ozzy our dog camped between Russell & Whangamata. The Orongo Bay Holiday Park was by far the best. So much in fact that after a few days away on other campsites we were tempted to cancel our other bookings & return to Orongo to spend out the rest of our holiday. The only thing that stopped us was the use the free accomodation of my brothers batch in Whangamata. The friendly owners, staff, the relaxed atmosphere, birds wondering around our tent, the quiet & peaceful surroundings, the welcoming of Ozzy adds enormously to our recommedation to family, friends & our keeness to return.

Room Tip: We stopped in our tent

We stayed 3 nights and wished we could have stayed longer. The eco-cabin was great and the setting is beautiful and relaxing. We loved watching the Weka birds on our deck. The park facilities are all you could want and our hosts were warm and accommodating, with lots of local knowledge. The area around Russell is magical and the town itself is charming. Highly recommend this part of New Zealand to visit and to stay at the Orongo Bay Holiday Park.

Room Tip: The eco-cabins are terrific
