“Holiday park hotels units with million dollar views”
Reviewed 24 August 2012

I have been going to Russell for many years now. It is my favourite place in New Zealand, so hoping to finally retire up there. This holiday park has all your needs met. You can choose to rough it in a tent, with cooking facilities and toilets/ showers handy. They also have bunk rooms through to the motel units. I prefer the motel units, they have nice decks and the view is to die for. The rooms are simple but very functional and are either stand alone or have one other room attached giving a bit of privacy. Our last stay was just after Christmas and we left just after New Years.

Stayed here 2 nights in a standard cabin with a breathtaking view. My room was very clean and I had my own little fridge. The Kitchen area and the communal facilities were perfectly cleaned. I just loved beeing there. The staff is very helpful and super friendly. They can organize every trip for you. I did some walking there and you can reach every track from the park. The location is just beautiful as you can see the bay and Russel from the deck of the kitchen and rooms. It is a very short walk to the city and the ferry bridge. I just loved being there. I hardly recommend this place to everybody. It is perfect for families, cuples and singles. Russell is a beautiful town and if you go there you have to stay at the TOP 10 Park.!! Thank you so much for one of the best stays I ever had :)

Stayed here with 4 kids. From start to finish we found everything about this place memorable. The staff so friendly and helpful - we decided to stay a second night because we enjoyed it so much and changed our itinerary accordingly. The kids loved the grounds, playground, I loved the cleanliness, the location, and of course the staff and price. Having been hesitant about this kind of accommodation I am absolutely convinced that this is the perfect place to stay for people with kids. As for Russell - my absolute favourite place on the North Island

We stopped in Russell, Bay of Islands in the week after new year. We had no idea that this was still holiday season for New Zealanders, so when we arrived at the the Top 10 holiday park late afternoon they were pretty much full. Luckily a very thoughtful and helpful owner/receptionist had marked up some extra bays which were outside of the main site, but still on the property. We had a campervan so were pretty self sufficient, but were very glad of the offer rather than having to return on the ferry having travelled up from Auckland that day. We paid as usual, and used all the facilities as normal.

The facilities were fantastic, the staff very helpful, the manager very friendly and welcoming, the other guests very nice, and tidy, and despite having only planned to stay one night we extended our stay and were moved into the site to a lovely prime spot with a view.

We would definitely go back if we were in the area again.

Very reasonably priced, and a must if you go to Russell!

Room Tip: Camper pitches higher up with views and power were amazing

We really enjoyed the location of our cabin and the terrific views from the deck. The cabin was small but adequate. The kids loved the playground and we were comfortable with the independence they had in going into the village from the fabulously close location to town.

The managers were great people, even offering me a cup of tea after a bout of extreme motion sickness en-route.

There was one thing we were particularly disappointed by and that was the overall cleanliness of the toilets. There was more than one occasion where I found toilet cubicles with over flowing toilet paper on the floor etc. the lights weren't working and we were showering in the dusky dark. The kids found this a little off-putting.

Overall it was a nice stay and as said before, the location was amazing.

Russell was our first camping stop on a month's trip in NZ. The location of the park to Russell township was excellent (less than ten minutes amble). The staff were personable. The facilities were clean and the grounds tidy and attractive. The showers were 50c for 6mins, but the meter was outside the cubicle so when I put in the money the shower started (the last person hadn't turned it off) while the door was open and I was still clothed. Rushed to switch it off. On the plus side it seemed to last longer than 6mins.

Something of a shock were the number of sleeper vans, i.e. Jucy, Escape & Wicked. The sort with sliding side doors. I don't ever remember so many in the past, and because they aren't campers they park on the non-powered sites among tents. For some reason people using these vans open and slam those sliding doors a maddening number of times before they settle in to bed. We recommend negotiating your tent position with staff when you arrive, and don't take their word upfront that they don't put vans with tents. Be pushy if you have to, go and recce the sites available before you go to reception. We prebooked all our campsites weeks/months prior and every single one of them North and South put us in the worst spots unless we argued, sometimes strongly for better ones.

We had problems with a large group of teenagers camped next to us playing music, drinking and talking loudly until quite late. We had to get up at 0530 for the Dunerider tour and weren't keen to be kept awake into the small hours. After approaching the manager it was pleasing that he came relatively quickly to shut them down. Kept awake later by someone doing donuts on the road outside the camp.

Russell is a beautiful sea-side village and we'd go back, but would probably take the hit on better accommodation.

Room Tip: Definitely recce your tent spot before speaking to reception and avoid unpowered camping vans.

Stayed for a week. Close walk to Russell. Beautiful grounds. Clean facilities.

Only issue is that the unseasonal rain led to a boggy campsite.

There is 50c charge for a 6 min shower.

Lovely staff at reception.

HIghly recommended and will stay again in future.
