Just returned from our trip to New Zealand and wanted to be sure to review this wonderful restaurant. (We dinned on 11th November.)
Digger’s is in the RSA building, just a block off the main seaside frontage road.
We just happened to walk by Diggers and showed up just in time for their dinner hours.
This building houses the RSA, (Returning Serviceman Association) what we in America would call a “Veteran’s Building.” The rooms and halls are filled with military history books, pictures and other memorabilia. Just to stroll through is a treat see all of the history, but the food is a bonus. You will find some of the best values here for a meal, plus the food was delicious as well as a beautiful presentation. I took a picture, our meals were so gorgeous. But I don’t know how to add it to this review, sorry. Even the plates had the name of the building glazed in it like fine china, with the military seal.
My husband had a tenderloin chicken dish and I had the pumpkin soup, and we shared both. Also enjoyed some wine from their bar. The local club members were very friendly,
and offered advise as to what other interesting things there were to see in the area. We watched the television and chatted casually while enjoying such a wonderful ambiance.
A very friendly staff in the kitchen, who really care about pleasing their patrons.
If you are looking to find the perfect spot for dinner while in Russell, please don’t miss the chance to enjoy Digger’s. They welcome everyone and you don’t have to be a club member.
