“The Duke- a Wedding Day must.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 November 2011

We have just spent 4x nights at the Duke for our wedding. I could not speak highly enough about how great a time we had. The staff in the Hotel are great and made everything as easy as possible. The wedding reception went off without a hitch, and the quality of food and service provided to all 90+ guests was amazing. For anybody who wants to stay in a real New Zealand iconic location, Russell and The Duke should not be missed. A big thank you from Craig & Aly

Room Tip: As we booked out the entire Hotel, the rooms cater for all requirements. The Waterfronts Suites/ roo...

We stayed in Paihia and took the ferry across. We had eaten here several years ago, and were disappointed, but had been advised that the restaurant and menu had been improved. Glad we did the menu reflects an assured restaurant that is ambitious but over reaching. Good quality beef and other produce is used, and really well priced. If you've been stung before, maybe go back, and give it another shot.

We have just been to Russel for a romantic weekend. Russel itself is beautiful, I hadn;t been for years and I'm so glad I went back. We had the heard that the historic "Duke" was under new management and had had a bit of a brithday so we thought we would stay there - It was fantastic. We were in room 5 which was a gorgeous waterfront suite. It looked out over the ocean and pohutakawas and was huge with a lovely big bed and living room all very well done with a beautiful boutique feel. They have been very clever and acheived a quality, contemporary feel without losing any historic charm or character. We went for drinks and dinner in the restaurant which was great - delicious food and a great atmosphere with some mellow live music early on. I would recommend a stay at the Duke to anyone it was great.

Room Tip: Room 5 was amazing

Stayed for one night to attend a cocktail party and it was fantastic fun. Our room had a great view...nothing like waking up to boats bobbing on a still morning. The hotel still retains a very quirky feel and it is certainy the best location in town. We shall return.

Room Tip: We had room 4 and it was just lovely

Stayed here for two nights (for a wedding). We had a lovely room with a view out over the water. The room was very spacious, as was the bathroom. Staff were very helpful, and the restaurant food (and indeed that produced for the wedding) was great! Would love to stay there again.

Thank you Bridget and all your wonderful and tireless staff for making my daughter's wedding such a happy and stress free day. The food was superb and I think it was fantastic that you were prepared to organise a gluten free menu just for us. All the guests who stayed at The Duke thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The pre-wedding family dinner was delicious and the staff were totally relaxed even though the numbers fluctuated as some of the guests took the "scenic" route from Auckland. This despite the fact that they were coping with all of Russell (and some French) who had gathered on the deck to watch the rugby. The nibbles for happy hour were a triumph - photos supplied. We will be back soon for more mouth watering fish and chips or maybe the seafood chowder or the mussels..........

Room Tip: Waterfront suites/rooms are delightful. There is no lift and it is worth checking whether the en sui...
