Had a Grabone night at the Duke. Lovely from the minute we arrived. Receptionist offered an upgrade & well worth it for balcony room on North east side. Food, restaurant excellent with log fire. What more could you ask for.
We are local Bay residents and proud to see a local business offering a value for money stay.
Ross & Jude.

Room Tip: North East side balcony rooms. Early morning sun on the deck. Sea views from lounge & deck.

We chose this hotel and location for a family long weekend. Beautiful location, friendly staff.
Only down side was the air con/heat pump. Did not work very well.
We stayed 3 nights and overall were very pleased.
Food was amazing in the hotel.

Room Tip: Will go back and now we know a little more about the hotel would love sea views.

We wanted a one-nighter on the way to Kerikeri for our week away. I've just returned to NZ after spending 4 years in Cornwall and Devon.
Great spot on the waterfront looking out through ancient Pohutakawa's over the water to Paihia. We chose the dinner, bed and breakfast option and a standard room (NZ$213). The room (12) was a good size, tidy and adequate with a very comfortable bed. Good to have windows that open for air and a good peek of the sea from the bed. The bathroom was a little on the small side for 2 tall people needing elbow room in the morning and the basin could have been a size or two larger. The food was delicious, superbly presented and well worth the additional NZ$60 to the cost of the room. The full dinner menu is available but only two courses can be chosen. The staff are a delight. Well worth checking this hotel out especially if you enjoy good food. Be warned though that the beer prices are unnecessarily steep. I was shocked by $14 for a 440ml bottle of widely available and delicious bottle of Emerson's pale ale. A pint of Guiness is more reasonable at $10.50. We would definitely return again and perhaps longer next time.

This was a great Hotel,it is obviously very old fashioned and the hallway and lounge/restaurant are so like Branston Hall in Lincolnshire or a hotel in Harrogate. The room was small and there was no view but it was clean and the bathroom was spotless. The staff were lovely and the ambience could not be beaten.
The food was absolutely scrumptious and booking before hand got us a table on the verandah at the front so we watched the magic of the sunset over the water as we ate our selves to a stand still.

Room Tip: This was a special so we paid lots less than quoted on the site. The rooms on the front looked palati...

We stayed as a couple for two nights and were delighted with our stay. We stayed in a standard room that had french doors onto a shared courtyard (we did have issues with cigarette smoke coming in through our closed windows-would love to see all hotels smokefree!!).
We ate at the restaurant and both LOVED our meals, we have eaten at the restaurant a number of times and the food has been consistantly delicious.
Next time we would upgrade to a waterview room as they were spatial with beautiful relaxing views.

Room Tip: Standard rooms are comfortable however upgrade to a waterview room if funds allow.

Enjoyed our stay, the room as great and all the meals were wonderful. Such a lovely place to have a drink and watch the sunset. The kumara bread with truffle mascarpone was to die for, would suggest that everyone has this to start their meal or to enjoy with drinks.
The place was very busy but staff were very helpful and attentive.
