My family and i recently spent a day on a boat trip around the bay of islands. We hopped off in Russell and sought out some food for lunch. There are plenty of choices along the water front, but we went one street back and found the York St Cafe.
Excellent prices, fantastic cafe stile food and good choice of drinks as well.
Friendly staff. I had a steak sandwich which was advertised as sirloin. Well, I was prepared for the usual thin slightly chewy "steak" that you often get in these type of menu items. Imagine my surprise and delight to see a genuine sirloin steak. Hanging out of both ends of the sandwich, about a half inch thick and cooked just right. Tender and flavoursome.
the rest of the family also very happy with their choices.
Highly recommended. Take the extra effort to go back that one street from the waterfront and you wont be disappointed.
