I would like to describe our room to you all and would like to know your thoughts.
My family and I booked into the Apple Motel Inn for 1 week in March 2013. The day we walked into the Apple Motor Inn, was the same day, we walked out of the Apple Motor Inn.
When we arrived we were asked to pay for the full amount of accommodation. $630 (including deposit) - i thought that this was the norm, so i paid for the accommodation and received the unit keys.
As soon as i opened the door, the room sent a very strong smell of being wet, damp and mouldy. It was very overpowering. If you suffer from any allergies, like i do, this room would not have been good for you at all.
We walked around and looked in the toilet where we noticed that there was no lock on the window. The shower had a large split in the wall that ran from one side of the wall to the other. The motel had tried to fix this up by placing this brown glue on the wall. Very unprofessional workmanship - When you opened the fridge there was rust running along the top edge of the fridge and some of the racks had signs of rust in them. The freezer was filled with ice. When we walked outside we noticed that the dividing fences between our unit and another 3 units, were all broken so anyone could walk through during the day, and at night. There was no curtain in the kitchen window so anyone who walked past could see into the unit and you would never be any of the wiser.
There was no phone in the room but there was some wires hanging out of the wall. The bench tops had several marks where the coating had worn right down to the bench top board.
When we arrived we noticed that there was a very large group of males (about 20-25) standing around – their washing was lying on the ground, trying to get dried. There was no clothes line insight or behind the unit that i was to stay in. The swimming pool had not been cleaned for a while.
We approached the owner of the Apple Motor Inn to advise that we were not happy with the room and why. Also, we felt very uncomfortable with the large group of males as we had our 15 year old daughter with us. We wanted to cancel our accommodation and were prepared to pay for a night or two.
However, the owner WOULD NOT REFUND any money to us at all. He kept the full amount of $630.00 NZ. We did try to explain why we wanted to leave but he would not listen to us.
We were also told that the room we were booked into was charged at $160 per night but we were getting this rate at $90.00 per night. Even that figure is not worth it.
At the end of the day, our gut feelings told us to leave, this place was not right ..........
This was my first experience with the Apple Motor Inn, Hastings, New Zealand. - not a very pleasant one at that.
On a happier note - we did eventually find other accommodation which was 1000% better that what we had received at the Apple Motor Inn.
All i can say to people out there, looking for a place to stay while you are in the Hawkes Bay - is - DO NOT go to the Apple Motor Inn
