We were given a group rate for being part of a wedding party and had we not received a discounted rate we would have moved on to another hotel. This would have been a beautiful place to stay once upon a time, but it is now very dated and in a very sad state of repair. The photos shown on the internet are very deceiving. We went to sit around the pool on the chairs that they show only to find there is only 2 left. The furniture in the room consisted of a small stool and small coffee table which we had to use to sit on. Our room smelt like something had been burning and the toilet definitely smelt of urine. We were advised against going to the restaurant for a meal - advice we should have taken. I have never been anywhere and had to take my meal back. Our steak was so tough it couldnt be eaten and even the waitress confessed to it being cut wrong so it was no wonder we could not eat it. Sadly it should never have been presented in the first place.

Had 2 sleepless nights due to the noisy seasonal workers, who enjoyed loud music until 3am and then they are up and making a noise ready for work again 5am. Woken 3am Sunday morning to noisy car outside unit, along with loud reggae music from car stereo. 4.30am people running down corridor banging on doors, including door to room next door (another guest who told us about it on Sunday). We were warned about the people staying there on a semi-permanent basis which is okay but were of the understanding they wouldn't be a problem - not being able to sleep is a problem.
Husband was horrified when cleaners entered unit at 8am to clear towels and clean room - a little early when guests havent had a chance to shower and have a cuppa.
Years ago I used to enjoy staying at Angus but would rather pay a little more and get something where I can sleep at night.
Beds could do with upgrading - very uncomfortable.
TV channels - said not to tune TVs which we didnt but when reported to office that one channel (Trackside) which my husband really wanted to view wasnt working they did nothing about it.

Shame Angus as you were once a very nice place to stay.

Room Tip: Don't know that there would be any good rooms

I stayed here for 1 night with my aunty. The room was definately dated but considering what we paid I thought it was fine. It was clean and functional and even had a bath. The permanent people living there that were referred to in previous reviews turned out to be seasonal workers. I found them to be polite and pretty quiet. No signs of drunken behaviour or anything. The best value was the breakfast which was included. My aunty had the cooked breakfast which looked absolutely delicious. What really surpised me was the fact that we got a complimentary espresso coffee of our choice. Even the flashest hotels usually charge for that!! If you are on a budget and can get a room for a good price including breakfast then go for it.

Our Labour Weekend stay was really great, our room was clean and spacious and had everything we needed. Getting up in the morning and watching horses being exercised on the Racecourse from the luxury of our bed was wonderful. The meals in the restaurant were great - huge breakfasts we couldn't always finish. Being within walking distance to the town and shopping was a bonus. The Hotel was in a quiet area with minimal traffic and the Hotel's surrounding trees and gardens added to the relaxed atmosphere we needed. It's hard to say which was best for us, but we can't say enough about the excellent service and hospitality we received from the friendly, professional staff. We'll definitely be back!

We hired out the entire complex for our recent AGM this past labour day weekend. We found the staff to be pleasent & competant in every way possible(they bent over backwards for us)!
The meals, breakfast & dinner, were excellent & possibly the only time that I couldnt manage to eat all of the meal in one sitting.
To Sue (manager) Moy & Michelle & all the other behind the scene workers, thanks again for your help in making our stay in Hastings one that will be spoken about for years to come.
Cheers Wayne Sharpe, Wellington Dellegate for the National Street Rod Association
