I have reviewed Glen Aros previously but feel compelled to add to my review following our recent visit. Phil and I were gifted a weekend at Glen Aros by our wonderful children to celebrate Christmas and our 60th birthdays. We had stayed three times previously and they knew how much we loved it there, so organised it in secret with Meg, the fabulous host. It was a complete surprise and we could not wait to get there! We were very warmly welcomed by Meg and Nigel and they set about making it a weekend of relaxation and incomparable food.

When we arrived we were given a lovely afternoon tea by the pool and Phil had a swim while I relaxed on a lounger and read. We prepared for dinner which was preceded, as always, by mouth watering canapés and drinks. They provided a lovely bottle of French bubbles to celebrate the occasion and we had the first of two evenings of the most wonderful dinners prepared by Nigel, the superb chef. Each time we have been there I think it couldn't possibly get any better, but each time it does. Nigel weaves his magic with ingredients sourced locally or from the estate itself and goes out of his way to provide dishes to delight you. His breakfasts are also superb and we always eat more than we should as they are so enticing.

We stayed in the Glencoe suite which we love and it was like coming home. Walking around the grounds is a very uplifting experience. It is so peaceful and the gardens are lovely. Meg and her husband Rob are truly wonderful hosts and make you feel very special.

We look forward to future visits and would absolutely recommend Glen Aros to anyone with a desire to experience something very special.

Room Tip: We have stayed in the Glencoe suite on three occasions and have found it to be very comfortable. The room is spacious and bathroom facilities are excellent. The bed is very comfortable, with lovely linen, and the rooms always have fresh flowers from the garden. On another occasion we stayed in the Tiree suite. This room is lovely with a large bathroom. The location of the estate is quite remote so there is no intrusion of outside noise to distract from the peacefulness and serenity of the surroundings. I would highly recommend either of these rooms.

We had such a great stay at the lodge. The scenery was absolutely fantastic; the landscaping was awesome, the rooms were very comfortable, the breakfast was tasty, the juices that Meg made for us was a sold out item. Our hosts Meg and Rob were so hospitable and went beyond to make our stay very comfortable. The place is very well maintained and clean. The moring walk was just so healing to the senses listening to the sheeps and birds. A great place!

Meg is really wonderful and the lodge is set in an exquisite setting. Saw some really great sunsets. The lodge has quite extended facilities such as billiards table, pool with spa and a small fitness Center. We had dinner there and would highly recommend the Swiss chef Patrice for giving us a great gourmet experience. Once again many thanks for creating a memorable experience.

We drove through miles of parched, brown countryside (at the time of our visit) and entered a Garden of Eden - green, watered lawns, fragrant rose gardens, neatly clipped low hedges, drifts of colourful flowers, all beautifully kept. The house is immaculate and we stayed in "Glencoe" which is a delightful room opening onto a veranda where we spent some time sitting and being served lovely afternoon tea. We were so well looked after by Meg, Nigel and Rob. Meg knows how to make people welcome and feel special. The lodge is a little way from the vineyards and we wanted to eat dinner at Craggy Range vineyard, so Rob very kindly drove us there so we would only have to pay for a taxi one way. Nigel's food is amazing. He prepared us a Degustation menu on our second evening when we were the only guests, and course after course of wonderful food appeared. We did enjoy our evening and every moment of our stay. Thank you for looking after us so well!

Glen Aros is a wonderful lodge surrounded by beautiful gardens and with great amenities. Our room was lovely, spotlessly clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. Bathroom facilites were great.

Meg, the host, was very warm and welcoming and could not do enough to ensure our stay was everything and more than we could have expected. We really enjoyed the tour of the property as she showed us the lovely gardens and fruit trees and we understood how much of the wonderful food we had came from the property. We really enjoyed our chats with her and also with Nigel, the chef.

The food was fabulous. Nigel had us eagerly awaiting each meal - from his wonderful breakfasts with home-made muesli with almonds, white peaches from the property and lovely local yoghurt; bacon, mushroom, eggs, black pudding etc, jams also made by him with fruit from the property. Dinners were scrumptious; Nigel had us in bliss as we enjoyed his delicious creations which were matched with some outstanding wines. We were very sorry when it was time to leave.

The best part, for us, is that we will be shortly returning for another stay and we cannot wait!!

Room Tip: We stayed the the Glencoe Suite which was very spacious and charming with a king bed which led onto a verandah. Would definitely recommend this room. As it is in the country there is no noise to worry about.
