We celebrated your wedding anniversary in the Hawks Bay Food and wine festival and staying at the Pavilion was the icing on the cake, great location and can recommend as a nice, warm and quite time out.

Room Tip: Bring your walking shoes as there are plenty of good working or biking tracks.

The Hawkes Bay walking and biking trails - over 200 kms of well formed off road tracks - are fantastic. We are lucky to have the Karamu Stream track on our boundary providing access to Havelock North by foot or bike and providing a lovely walking loop on both sides of the stream.

Needing a break? Seriously...Needing a break away from all the distractions?
Johns House by name is humble but as a retreat it has and essence that is close to the holy grail of revitalisation. By night a wine by the fire, by morning you wake up to the bird calls and as the day opens you have the choises to go for a short walk into Havelock north township or head out the gate for a long walk along the orhards of Miller road. Wine trails, famous market day, Te Mata Peak all so close and to top it off all those little discovery shops, cafe's and resturants that lead you along in a slower pace of life for once. A true escape and a home that feels familiar and comfortable, luxurious the moment you walk in. Will be back to this wonderful Winter escape!...if winters this good Summer must be Utopia!

Thank you so much for your enthusiastic review. We agree that Hawke's Bay certainly has heaps to offer in both Winter and Summer. We're really enjoying discovering the gorgeous hidden landscapes of the off road bike trails, and we're locals! All that exercise really deserves a fabulous dinner and Hawke's Bay wines in front of the fire! We hope you'll come back soon.

We recently stayed at the Pavilion for a weekend to attend a wedding. We brought our 1yo daughter with us. John and family were great in making our stay very comfy and stress free, including organising babysitting for our daughter while we were at the wedding! Greta and Izumi was wonderful. We looking forward to coming back and staying here again.

We're really glad you enjoyed your stay at the Pavilion, near John's House. We're just thrilled with the way the house has settled into the landscape, after such a short time. We think the Pavilion is ideal for a couple with a young child, or of course for a romantic weekend break for busy parents on their own. We're always happy to babysit; lacking grandchildren, it's great to enjoy other people's!

My husband and I stayed here with our son and daughter in law in early November 2012. We had celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary earlier in Ireland, and were treated to this weekend away in Hawkes Bay. It was truly amazing. It lent itself to some slow time, barbeques, good wine, good food and great company. I certainly hope that we will get the opportunity to stay again.

We found John’s House online then checked TripAdvisor reviews before booking for 5 days. We weren’t disappointed. This house has true architectural character, a really interesting history and a very special ambiance. It is beautifully decorated with comfortable beds and furniture and everything you might need for a self catering stay. The house is situated in its own green grass gardens, surrounded by colourful plants and beautiful trees – the hiss of the sprinkler during hot days was so relaxing. We also enjoyed delving into the book cases near the front door and sometimes found it difficult to leave the patio and do the tourist trails nearby. John’s House is situated just minutes between Havelock North and Hastings but also close for visiting Napier and the Hawke’s Bay wineries. The owners Nick and Judy supply fabulous goodies for breakfast including home made muesli, preserves and fresh fruit from the gardens. Nick was specially helpful and knowledgeable about restaurants and tourist spots - if only we could have dragged ourselves away from the house more often! If you are considering this property, don’t hesitate – it really casts a magical spell.

Room Tip: Need a car but everything close by.

It is not often that a vacation rental is also an architectural gem. John's House truly lives up to its website description. We enjoyed 5 days of bliss and could have stayed for more. The house, the hosts, and the setting are all excellent and there is the added attraction of the four legged residents in the paddock for our entertainment. For anyone who likes to cycle get a bike from Village Cycles and Tours in Havelock North and go explore the wonderful bike paths and wineries!

We stayed at John's house recently attending a friends wedding in Havelock North. We were a family of four with two extra adults. We couldn't have had a more pleasant experience. The house is on a farm with cows, pigs, and alpacas. All of us, especially the kids, thoroughly enjoyed the experience!! The highlight though was the hospitality of the owner, who was very helpful from the date of the booking throughout our entire stay! He was especially great with our kids! Would highly recommend John's house if you ever have a chance to go to this beautiful part of the country.
