““Make sure you visit this winery in the Hawkess Bay!””
Reviewed 14 December 2013

This winery was an impulsive stop on our way up from Wellington and am so glad it was. We were looking for a coffee but ended up sampling the wine too.

Great atmosphere, friendly people, and good wine. We sat outside and tasted the wine and chatted with the winemaker and his family who run the cellar door. We found it a nice touch to sit and talk with the winemaker about the region, the wines, the food, all while slowly tasting their beautiful wines. We were also able to try some of their great food products of olive oils and jams.

We were treated like old friends who had come for a visit which just made this experience so memorable. We will be making this a regular stop on our visits to the Hawke's Bay.

“Beautiful location but service could have been better”
Reviewed 9 October 2013

Nice day out visiting various wineries, decided to have lunch at this one as the previous couple visited were not open for lunch. Tastings $3 per head which was not too bad, the lady had pretty good knowledge despite being her first day, but would have been nice if all the staff had the same uniforms or dress code, did not come across as very professional. Ordered 3 platters for lunch which, when they came, seemed very overpriced for what there was, and poorly presented. I would go back for the wine but definately not the food.

“A Boutique Winery not to be missed!”
Reviewed 4 March 2013

Being a Hawke's Bay local I thought I had visited every winery that our region has to offer, however I was wrong! I recently went on a wine tour with Odyssey New Zealand and our tour driver Samuel made the great suggestion of making this a stop on our day long tour. Ash Ridge is an absolute gem! We sampled half a dozen wines which were all very impressive and were guided through the tasting by a very knowledgeable and friendly member of staff - Lauren. We sampled a great selection of whites and reds - I can highly recommend both the 2011 Chardonnay & Viognier, as well as the 2010 Merlot Cabernet. Lauren was an excellent host to our group and was most accommodating, even producing a bottle of their unique Ritzling for us to try!
Before we left, I was given a flyer advertising a Boutique Wine Festival at Ash Ridge on March 3. Having had such a positive experience at the Ash Ridge Cellar Door, I then returned with some friends for this fantastic event. Ash Ridge put on a great day, with live music, food and of course a great selection of wine. Many Boutique Wineries attended the event and showcased their superbly crafted wines for just a $5 entry fee. We tasted some amazing wines and had a fantastic day in the Hawke's Bay sunshine. Thanks so much to Lauren for recommending we return for the festival - you can be sure we'll be back to Ash Ridge to restock our cellars one day soon!
