Open for lunch and dinner, the atmosphere is one of relaxed sophistication. A talented team in the kitchen share a food philosophy of fresh and simple dishes using really good produce. “Fine dining or casual”

Great setting, great food. Make it a special occasion, or a platter after the movies. Great service and plenty of parking.

Amazing food and wine experience was had at Vidals last night. We are so lucky in Hawkes Bay to have such world class restaurants on our door step.

“Beside the roaring fire is a great place to be on a winter's night”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2012

We have been to Vidal's Restaurant several times and have always found the food to be excellent and tasty, though sometimes rather pricey for the quantity. This time I went with my son and his wife and shared platters and a couple of bottles of wine. As it was a cold winter's evening we sat in the casual dining area near the large free-standing fireplace. There weren't too many other diners and we had a very pleasant few hours chatting. The platter was mostly enjoyable, but the hummus left a strange aftertaste and the tin of sardines, though topped with a very tasty Sicilian salad, was rather underwhelming. The pork belly coated with chilli-caramel sauce was especially beautiful, we could have eaten a whole plate of that! The Savignon Blanc was lovely. I do enjoy Vidal's wines, though they're too expensive to indulge in frequently.

“Hit and miss...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 February 2012

My husband and I have gone to Vidals many, many times. It just isn't consistant. The last time we payed a visit was my birthday. We had bread to start and the bread was like concrete... (other times has been fine). Not a good start. We shared an entree...niether of us liked.( A whitebait omlette which should have been divine). The mains... it was january, a hot summer evening and the menu was just not summery.(If that is the right term?) We ended up having a lamb dish that seemed like it was meant for a cold winters evening with tomatoes and olives and almost stew like. To top it off, we both felt it was just too expensive for what we got. I like Vidal... and do want to return, but things really need to improve.
