Review of El Yunque

Very beautiful "drive-through" rainforest has lovely hiking trails, a smaller offroad falls Coco Falls, as well as larger falls which are reachable via a half hour hike, lookout towers, snack bars, info center, picnic areas, etc. This us a refreshing break from the heat and city. It was worth the drive - we visited in a rental car. The area was easy to find and accessible, and may be enjoyed by all - even by non-hikers and those with limited mobility.

What an adventure! Although this attraction was a bit scary the higher you go, the site at the top was definitely worth it. We rented our own car versus paying for the tour. Easy to get there and better that way in my opinion. FREE vs paying a company over $100 per person!! Just be careful as you drive on the narrow roads. And try to stop for some empanada's or shrimp tacos at one of the little side restaurants...they are YUMMY!

The heavy plant life and tree growth is what you come to see at El Yunque. The trails were lovely with sparkling pools, water falls, bird calls, and a fun path to a waterfall. The Visitors center informative and the trail below the center an easy fun hike in a jungle. Various workers around the park were helpful and fun. We didn't score much on the birds, but more than made up for it with a plunge at the bottom of a fall.

El Yunque is a Nation Park about a 1 hour bus ride east of San Juan. The park is a rain forest and the heavy plant and tree growth leaves little to see. The visit to the park was OK but we would not have opted to visit had we known of the little amount of scenery to see. There are some small water falls to the side of the road. If you like a lot of Green you may like this park. Bring bug spray.
